PODS might work for us... especially if we have to store our stuff in between. Plus as you point out I could be loading it as I go.

Deb,
I have no idea what is going down with the house hunting. Originally they said they'd fly me down... Mr F has to get on that. He's giving him his offer today.
Reimbursement.... I've...You're on the right track with moving costs. I've seen the bills from our last corporate moves, and they were unbelievable. Get them to reimburse expenses (including incidentals like meals, personal car mileage for househunting, etc.) NOT cut you a $10k check, which you would have to pay taxes on. You'll have to front the money yourself, but it will save you money in the long run, and they can write it off. I assume they're giving you a trip or two for househunting, too? If not, you definitely want that covered, with the price of airline tickets. Tell Mr. F he can just conference me in. ;)Debhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13850825844277186930noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3970661341243634764.post-7684118870171346232008-05-27T22:49:00.000-04:002008-05-27T22:49:00.000-04:00I wrote you out a long post and my grandson came i...I wrote you out a long post and my grandson came in and deleted it!! So the short version is... try pods.com. they are mid priced. they do full service down to drop it in the yard and leave. they will pick it back up and deliver it or store it on the other end as needed. for a 2500 sq ft 4 bedroom house Wa state to Florida was 4700. If you got a pod now you could start loading in your boxes you want to keep and sort through easier. I have moved more times then I can count. My hubby was in the military for over 20 years. I can give you loads of hints if you would like.dasnowzhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12807396385524507393noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3970661341243634764.post-70071568332238224882008-05-27T19:59:00.000-04:002008-05-27T19:59:00.000-04:00Oh man, I feel ya! Luckily it is only a 2 bedroom apartment though, on top of my friends 1 bedroom apartment.

Gas for the trip is around $900 just for the moving truck, not including my car that is also traveling. Geesh.

I am sure you can do it though, once you get started everything seems to come together. Her new employer wouldn't pick up the move, plus they haven't sold their house yet, so now they have two mortgages. So, it could be worse! You will be fine, although I know it is overwhelming. I'd definitely dump anything you haven't used in 7 years. That might be a good way to feel like you've really accomplished something, which might make you feel better too. Mrs. F, I would use your own boxes and pack it all yourself. I have packed myself for two cross-country moves and frankly--it is a ton of work but doing a good job is not rocket science. Buy packing paper at the U-haul center and start collecting boxes now. You can get great boxes free from liquor stores, etc. If you have Craig's List, ask around for boxes. Packing china is NOT difficult--I have beautiful china, I've packed it myself and have never broken a piece. Seriously--you can do this.

As for the furniture, it will be hard to pare down until you know where you will be living and what you will need...but I'd try to err on the side of getting rid of more. You are moving to NC, which is the home of awesome, reasonably priced furniture. Also, you guys seem to like arts and crafts style stuff (judging from the bungalow style of your house), and Asheville has a number of festivals, sales, etc. at the Grove Park Inn of gorgeous arts & crafts stuff. What I'm trying to say is, anything you leave will not be hard to replace, where you are going.hicktowndivahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01951823806122109194noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3970661341243634764.post-40516164247815038082008-05-27T17:39:00.000-04:002008-05-27T17:39:00.000-04:00tuwabvb,Thanks.I had just called Mr F and said to ...tuwabvb,
Thanks.
I had just called Mr F and said to get them to double the moving expenses if they won't raise the salary anymore.
