Having babies at 20 makes it hard to have an education/career (or at least it did for me).

The only thing that I wished I knew then, that I know now, is how long I would be in school. At first I was just trying for a 2 year diploma, then a bachelors, and now onto my masters (if I get into the program). If I had known when I started how long I was going to be in school, I contemplate whether I would have choosen something with better pay. But that being said, I love the fact that I love & feel passionate about the field I am going into. I do believe I found not a job, but a profession.Kinderhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18335702302039163801noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3970661341243634764.post-71517026943430315082009-12-10T23:46:25.358-05:002009-12-10T23:46:25.358-05:00Professor...of Art History, or a Cartographer...b/...Professor...of Art History, or a Cartographer...b/c I love maps! I would love the extra job opportunities it would give me in management and in psych. Plus, sometimes I think it owuld be nice to help the PHYSICAL and not only the emotional side of people. And there are so many types of nursing that you can never become bored. Even if you decide you hate people, you can do the insurance side and chart audits. I was one of the weird ones who knew that I wanted to have a family and be able to choose not to have daycare. (maybe from coming from a 2-parent full time working family?). Anyhoo...love my line of work, but if I HAD to choose something else my second choice would have been something in accounting.

Andrea-my mom actually went back to school when I was 10 or so (with a 7yr old sister and 3yo brother). My dad had to pick up the slack and yes, the house was not as tidy and McD's or BurgerKing was the debate of the night, but in the end I don't think any one of us was any worse off. Plus, seeing my mom go through college imprinted in me how important it was to pursue education. So even though the short term is a lot of compromising (and BigMac's!) its still worth it in the end!!! It's hard to say. In my dreams I'd be a writer, which I think still pulls from my creative side. Though it is very hard when you are 20 to conceive of how important that will really be. It is my plan to go to community college and get my RN once we're settled some place. It'll take me two years but after that I'll actually make more money starting out that I could with my MSW now. While it isn't the job I dreamed of... I think it is a good fit. With all of Kid's issues I know that a good nurse makes all the difference and I'd like to do that for others.
