Period.

Bob,
Yes, I read that about the lumber. We had a hardcore boycott going after we moved from NYC... we were just sick of it. But, I'll give Ikea some props that not everything is disposable. They've done a lot to make kitchens affordable, etc. We've got Ikea office furniture that we've had in use for about 15 years, and a 10+ year old bed frame that is still going strong even though it's been taken apart and reassembled 5 times. Having said that, we prefer *real* furniture when it comes to things that take a hit... living room, dressers, tables and dining chairs. We'd much rather hit the antique fair for solid wood and not particle board. And a good couch, while more money, is actually comfortable... something, in my experience, you just can't get at Ikea.Mrs Furioushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18082932653215907248noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3970661341243634764.post-79157002445555097262010-07-16T12:50:54.820-04:002010-07-16T12:50:54.820-04:00Recover them?? The thing is th...julie,
I'm going to have to...
The thing is the family room is probably the last room I wanted to have to decorate since it's just a hodge podge of stuff we've bought & inherited and no one but kids will see it. It also will require the MOST money when we do it... new couch, TV, etc. Ah well. Hopefully some curtains will help tie the red in... did I mention our couch is our inherited camel colored (with nail head detailing) leather couch... could not be more clashing with those chairs!

HC,
Ikea... always the double edged sword. I went in just to window shop for rugs & curtains... left with a complete set of Star Trek chairs!Mrs Furioushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18082932653215907248noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3970661341243634764.post-35771865348884716592010-07-15T11:55:29.297-04:002010-07-15T11:55:29.297-04:00I fear we're on the way to just recreating the...I fear we're on the way to just recreating the damned store in our apartment. Haley: LOL!

Damn, I hate that feeling of regret. The Ikea As-Is section ...Oh, Mrs. F, I feel you.

The Ikea As-Is section is the devil's playground... Adam and I have spent way too much time in Ikea lately (on one special day we did Paramus, then Brooklyn... and then Paramus again...oy) and the siren song of deeply discounted floor display merch is just too strong sometimes. We've already gotten our coffee table, TV stand, and dining chairs there, and I fear we're on the way to just recreating the damned store in our apartment. This must end.HChttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06304951997726221523noreply@blogger.com
