It's Official

I broke my coccyx right where it joins the sacrum ...aka... I did indeed fracture my tailbone. Pretty badly. No little spidery fracture for me... oh no... I had to break that baby straight across. Awesome. They told me I might need surgery... I'll find out this week when I see the Orthopedist. Until then I've got some Vicodin... which should be kicking in anytime now (Thank God). Don't worry I've only got a good 6 week recovery ahead of me...

Lori,
It's been hard on Mr F and I do feel badly... he is not used to having to manage so many things at once ;)
Baby is definitely taking it the hardest since she doesn't understand.

Katieo,
Thomas & Baby ?!?! Surely you jest ;)

Supermom,
I will call you if I need anything. I'm really hoping to rope my mom into coming out to help.

Julie,
The drugs have kicked in ;)

Oh My God, that is So F-ing Awful. I am so sorry. I want to cry to think of the pain and how long the healing will take! If you need surgery I hope that makes it heal fast. Hugs!!!

GAHHHHHHH!!! I've been away from the computer for a day or so and come to find THIS!! NOOOO!! I'm so sorry to hear it!

I have a sacrum injury as well (though NOT a break, thankfully) and it hurts like HELL.

My sympathies.

Mrs Furious said...

Julie,
"What a pain in the ass!"
I'm surprised you're the first to say it. I have a feeling I'll be getting that a lot ;)

Gypsy,
I had no idea something as insignificant sounding as "tailbone" could be so integral to all my movement. I can't believe how painful this. Had I known I'd be facing this kind of recovery I would have scheduled a tummy tuck and knocked them both out at the same time.

Heather,
Oh it is a MOTHER!

P.S. I had sacral issues ever since Kid... I know what a nightmare that is. I suffered for a long time but found pilates to be the only thing that really helped long term... so maybe look into that. I had a good chiropractor when things flared up but once I was doing pilates regularly I rarely had issues. Until now...

Oh my god, Mrs. F...I'm away from my computer for a couple of days and come back to this horrible news...that totally sounds like something I would do so now, I'm I'm having second thoughts on my own idea of hitting the rink w/ the kids....I bruised that same area when I was in middle school and it was by far the most god awful pain ever so I can certainly relate to the misery you are in...esp. while trying to be a mom to boot...I think you just may need something stronger than vicodin :)...I am so very sorry this happened to you but at the very least at least it happened AFTER Christmas so I hope the Furious family was able to still have a furiously wonderful Christmas...
what can i do to help? cook a meal? watch Baby? Anything I can do you know I'm here willing and able...PLEASE let me help and I also hope that you can get your Mom to come as well because you need to be able to recover and have someone take care of you as well!!! In the meantime, I'm only a phone call away if you need a coffee drop off, Baby sitter, dog walker, etc, etc.-whatever, day or night!!!! (same goes for you too, Mr. F)

I am so so sorry. I did something damn close to that when I was in high school. The pain is unimaginable. So I really feel for you.

Sorry I missed you earlier, but I look forward to future contact via your suggested method.

All I can say is Damn It! So sorry.

Oh ick! I'm sorry Mrs. F!!! I joked the other day that I broke my butt and was told by a co-worker that it is no laughing matter.

Hope your vicodin helps soon, and your butt has a speedy recovery! What a bummer!

I can't believe this has happened to you!!! I am so sorry - I'm just getting time to get caught up and feel terrible for you that you are having to go through this -

Oh, I'm really sorry! Poor you -- that must be awful. Try to relax and heal fast -- I know if must be so hard with the baby.

OMG!!! I cracked my tailbone giving birth to my son and I couldn't sit for weeks I can't even imagine how much pain you are in!!!

Keeping my fingers crossed for you!!

Shirls said...

yikes! I hope its get better and fast.

Nann said...

My sincerest condolences. This is the last thing you need. Take the meds, rest and let Mr. F. help as much as possible.

Thanks for all the well wishes my friends. I go to see the Orthos tomorrow. Which is good since the hospital only gave me 4 days worth of vicodin and I was worried about it running out, with the 1st and all, before I could get in.
I'm really hoping that I don't need surgery since we are living so close to our budget that all those extra expenses would hit us really hard. Plus I can't imagine the surgery recovery would be much better than what I'm going through now. Ugh and the childcare. This really is a nightmare. But it just goes to remind me to appreciate the times when we are all healthy more. It's so easy to forget what a blessing that is.

Kiki said...

Just checking in and saw this...am devastated for you!! I'm hoping you're a fast healer and that they don't have to perform any surgery! I'll be keeping you guys in my thoughts, if there was more I could do, I would!!

I am so sorry.

oh shoot!
I'm so sorry. I hope you heal fast. At least they gave you the good drugs. I like the upside, teach that Kid to be self sufficient! It's never too early!

Heather said...

I've got extra vicodin, btw.

Hey thanks for the pilates tip!

Robin said...

Man, that really sucks!! Maybe you need a little more fat on your ass to protect your butt bone. ;)

I hope the Vicodin is working and you get good news from the orthopedic surgeon. (I love Vicodin.)

I'm sorry. What a "bummer."

In my own selfish way, I am looking forward to vicoden induced blogging.

I hope you don't need surgery. Keep us posted.

I am sorry about your injury.Having broken my coccyx twice (once at 8, sliding down a banister, once at 30, thrown from a horse) I can tell you the pain was hard and the ridicule was harder. I am glad that you got the good drugs and I do so hope that you don't need an operation.
Here in Germany, this would get you a household helper from insurance (with no co-pay) for at least 4 hours a day (longer if necessary to care for baby). This would enable your spouse to work and your children to be cared for while decreasing the likelihood of further costs. Perhaps in a few years the US will have the same?

bigappletobigbear,
Man oh man am I living in the wrong country! That is amazing.... and somehow I doubt that will be available here anytime soon!

Oh goodness Mrs F! I am so incredibly sorry... and I'll be crossing my fingers tomorrow and hoping that you don't need surgery. Glad you went to the ER when you did - and that you can get into see the ortho before New Year's.

Hope the good drugs are helping! My husband was diagnosed with shingles the day after Christmas (curse you 2008 - can't wait until this year is OVER) and among many other drugs received a prescription for Vicodin which he refused to fill... if you get desperate let me know. : )

I think you and I were separated at birth. I bruised my tailbone (very painful -- I couldn't sit for weeks) a few years ago....then on Friday (the 19th) I fell down the stairs (because the Huz left his wet snowy boots by the steps) and tore the lateral meniscus in my right knee....

Vicodin was my savior. Enjoy.

Get OUT! Surgery? Oh, I hope that's not necessary. I'm so sorry.

Congratulations on being a finalist for the Weblog Awards, though! I hope that brightens things a bit (although probably not as much as the Vicodin).

Mrs Furious said...

Dana,
Ooh jesus.... that doesn't sound good! Hope you're healing up!

Deb,
Get out! Alright I'm going to have to summon all my energy for some way better posts...

Ouch! I actually did that as a child by falling off of a swingset that I was hanging upside down on. It is very painful!

Monkey's Momma,
