we bought our house last june and the crazy non-stop rain has been an issue ever since. our basement floods every single time. i am about to freaking lose it. i feel your pain!
It's one of those things that EVERY home seller claims doesn't happen... then you move in... and CLEARLY it does. We of course believed them and had carpets and stuff down on the floor... ugh... it's a huge clean up ahead of us. It has finally stopped raining (although it will rain tomorrow) but the ground is so saturated it's still just pouring in.
we were the same way-told it didn't leak and they were right...it doesn't leak, it straight floods! we started finishing the basement and are now on hold with that until we can figure out the problem. we really need that space so we're hoping we can find the issue.
pregnancy is going great right now. i am feeling overwhelmed with all there is to do before she gets here. plus anxious with the birth, having a newborn, etc. but overall we're totally excited! thanks so much for asking :)
Think it's finally slowing down. Of course there's rain in the forecast today and tomorrow. Luckily one my coworkers is like a rental center. Heavy duty janitor-style yellow mop bucket and wringer? Check. Giant professional drying fan? No problem. Add a hundred dollar wet vac (figured we should invest in something) and we've battled back.
Fortunately Mrs F discovered the water before anything got really ruined. We learned some lessons in Asheville and had almost all boxes, etc off the floor. Biggest problem will be drying out the rug and pad in Mrs F's workout area.
We 100% had not learned our lesson, and while we MEANT to have no boxes on the ground we hadn't actually implemented that plan. Several boxes were soaked through. As well as a brand new carpet remnant which was standing on end in it and sucked it up like a wick.
And the old school mop w/ringer?! Are you fucking kidding me? I was the one left here all day to fight the endless battle with that. Would have preferred to have gotten the wet vac from the beginning. That mop was like wrestling a bear. Heavy and unruly. Ridiculous. And I expect I won't be able to walk much today.
Oh, it was/is a nightmare. I didn't mean to make it sound all happy and fine. Just about every hour since Thursday aftrnoon that I've been home I've had to spend in the basement, and Mrs F about killed herself during the worst of it while I was at work Friday, not to mention dealing with the damage before I got home Thursday.
It sucks. But I was coming from the more optimistic perspective early this morning that we seem to be ahead of it, and now it is barely coming in.
Considering many houses around here are FILLED with water, not to mention what is happening down South, I think we got away with minimal damage.
But not without lots of effort.
Once again, Mrs F rocked it out in the face of calamity. That needs to be acknowledged, and my post didn't get into that.

I don't know why he says stuff like that...
