Toot Toot

Kid just got her IOWA test results back and guess who scored in the 99th percentile (in the nation)?!

Placing her not in 4th grade but the middle of high school.

"I didn't think I was smart."  She said, then stared adoringly at the test results.

I am SO proud of her.  She has had a lot of hardships to overcome and she has.

We are in awe of her fortitude.

(And a shout out to anyone with a delayed reader... fear not... she couldn't read until the end of 2nd grade.  So don't get stressed, give it time.)

well we all knew she was smart.

I was pretty damned good at standardized tests too. recently went back through old school reports and found test results.

And thanks so much for the note on late readers. Eli is going to be a really late bloomer in that department. he is making very slooooow progress. I don't think he's progressing as fast as his teacher thinks she should be able to (not that anyone has said that per se) and I suspect it's frustrating. Few kids his age have a better vocabulary, so he probably seems like he should be able to read, but his brain just isn't ready for it.

Way to go, Kid. Don't let crotchety people fool you, you are a force.

Yes, she was just like that. She was the lowest reader in K & 1st... started picking up in 2nd and by the beginning of 3rd was reading at a 6th grade level and now in 4th she is as high as she can be. She is a proficient adult level reader. She reads (with comprehension) about 10x faster than I can.

I was gonna carry along with last week's theme in my comment, but this is too cool to joke about today. Big congratulations!

Thanks all,
I know it's fairly obnoxious to post this... but after all the educational worries we've gone through over the years it has been hugely validating (for all of us).
