It Was Everything I Hoped It Would Be

Yesterday when we were driving to the amusement park we drove through a small Pennsylvania town. Right in the center of town I saw an Amish buggy road sign. My heat skipped a beat. My niece and I started scanning the area... we didn't have to look far.

I noticed that immediately ahead of us was a courting buggy being driven by a young man and his two sisters. A couple of cars were in front of us but they took their first opportunity to pass them. Fortunately for me once I was behind them we couldn't pass and we got to follow them for a bit.

Once we did pass them we came upon another buggy!
Believe me... I was FREAKING out. This is the closest I've ever actually been to the Amish. It was incredibly fulfilling.

Even Kid, knowing the importance of such a sighting for me, was beaming!

This almost made up for the pure hell Baby has been putting me through since we left.

LOL! When you come into MI you should stop in CLARE (off US-10).
LOTS of Amish in that town. :)

They even have areas for buggy's to tie up to at the bank, resturants & even...THE DOLLAR GENERAL! LOL! :P

Plus you could get out and stretch your legs & play at the McDonald play place. :)

OH....If you come through on a weekend you can often find them selling quilts, baskets, veggies right off the Clare exit. There is a Park & Ride carpool thing they are normally at in the summer months. :)

My boys love seeing the buggies too...they always wave at them & they wave back. Just like getting a big rig to blow their horn at them. :P Ah...boys. LOL!

Okay...just a thought. :)

That town even has a flea market type thing that the Amish put on. There are other crafters/vendors there but the main thing is an auction...never been to the auction part but I assume they sell their quilts, furniture & other goods.

I believe they are in May (Memorial day weekend) & in September...not sure the weekend or date.

Lol--"wonderful-gut, jah". I just finished book 3 of Abrams daughters (Leah's raising the kids, Sadie comes home at the end) and the freaking library isn't open until TOMORROW!!!! I must go on hoping against hope that poor Leah and Jonas will come together...

You must must must find an amish place to buy something so you can interact with them. It's better than seeing a movie star. I'm green with envy over here.

I had to skip around the Abrams Daughters series. Going to have to buy online to fill in the blanks.

If one of those buggies had a bear in it, it would be the ultimate Furious sighting!

The first couple years we lived in MI, we would stop in Clare on the way Up North...we favor a different (further east) route now.

Too bad....just thought it would be worth a shot for some free entertainment & joy. :)

Gotta get through those car rides some how. :)

Staci,
Mr F is wrong, we do go through Clare. Even on the other route. I'm pretty sure....

Mrs F - I had no idea you have never been in the presence of the Amish. My family is from Northern Indiana (Elkhart, Nappanee, Goshen, etc...) and the Amish are all over that area. When I go visit I make sure to bring my cooler so I can load up on Amish cheese, peanut butter (to die for) and baked goods. There is a town outside of Nappanee called Shipshewana that is primarily Amish run businesses - a little touristy but I love it. Makes me want to buy a little rag doll every summer.

There are Amish communities in northern Ohio so if you come home that way you might get lucky and see some more buggies.

Maybe on your way back you can stop in Clare, MI -

I think I told you that last year the Amish built my sisters new house didn't I? In Clare.

They did the frame of the house & then did the cabinets/cupboards in the kitchen, bathrooms & laundry room. They also did their stair railing/banister. All hickory...VERY beautiful! :)
