Casualties Of War

Last night, in my efforts at multitasking, I managed to grate the nail off my thumb while scrubbing the pasta colander (who knew those holes could be that sharp?!!!). Yes, I fell to the ground screaming in bloody agony. Then the girls brought me a Diego band aid. Sadly, that did not do much to mitigate the pain of having to continue washing all the dishes with a painfully pulsating thumb burning with the heat of a thousand suns (Owwwww... seriously). It's my right thumb, I might add, and I'm right handed.

"I know it hurts, but we're gonna get to Meesheegan beally soon. In Meesheegan Daddy can make your finger not hurt." Baby told me empathetically.

"I hope that works." She said to herself as she walked away.

Yeah, me too.

Empathy from little ones is so sweet, if only it took the pain away! I think it's their version of a "kiss from mommy" to make you feel better.

Oh I know. Both girls were really alarmed and wanting to help me.

I popped my already-fragile knee the other day outdoors with the boys. As I rolled on the ground for a moment, trying to blink away the lightning flashes in front of my eyes, Smitty Jr walked up, hit me with a foam sword and said "get up, daddy. You're not hurt."

Good. I don't want his empathy. Harumph.

I cut my finger pretty badly last fall (uh, yeah, I actually put my finger into one the blade of a handheld blender to scrape the food out and accidently pushed start.) Murphy STILL runs to me to see if I am okay whenever he hears me make a sound he thinks might mean that I am hurt. It's sweet, but also, the poor kid must think I am really inept. Eventually he will catch on that I am just overdramatic.

That is so cute about Baby.

I have a serious fingernail-injury phobia (as Mrs F knows) so even contemplating her injury for more than a second makes me want to leap out the window.

Yikes.

I was feeling like a complete freak until I saw Mr. F's last comment. It gives me the heebie jeebies to think too hard about the whole thing, but I do love that Baby F. What a sweetie pie.
