I'm Alive

Mr F surely has some good pics of Easter... I'll put them up soon.

I spent yesterday looking at houses... duds... all of them. Surprisingly depressing. The houses were FILTHY. And you know how I feel about keeping a house clean for showings. And this just proves the point. I'm kind of rethinking location at this point. And appreciating how nice our house and yard are in Asheville. We didn't see anything even close to what we have now. Not even close.

The kids are out of sorts. Sleeping is off. Eating is off. They are bored. Baby really needs her routine and space. I haven't worked out, I've been eating jelly beans by the fistful and I have been drinking soda. In short...I've been breaking out like a teenager before the prom.

We went to the zoo on a hot day. After the long walk back to the car Kid yelled "I don't want to move here, I HATE MICHIGAN!!!!" Then I reminded her we wouldn't actually be living at the Detroit Zoo (FYI The Toldeo Zoo is 1000x better... just sayin'... it's not even close to the same experience... plus the Amish are always at the Toldeo Zoo... bonus!!).

Some people are loving our house (jaw dropper they said) but can't afford it... still waiting to see if they love it enough to make an offer (PLEASE!!!!)

I'm really into these Detroit mansions.here, here, and here. I know you thought you could buy whole blocks of houses in Detroit for $100... well... you are kind of right and kind of wrong. Did you see that kitchen!!! I need a mansion!!!

Wow, Love the houses! I had to show my husband! Told him we need to move to MI. Now he thinks I'm off my rocker.
Don't know if we could stand the snow. Phoenix weather is so enticing, except for 3-4 months of the year(100-120 degrees). lol
Good luck with your search.

HOLY FREAKING CHRIST!!!!!!!!

I can't believe the houses you get for the price!!!!!!!!

Houses like that here go for $600,000-$1,000,000!!!!!!!!

I fell out of the chair when I opened the one on Chicago. 6 bedrooms for only $200,000???? I think I died when I fell.

Good Lord the COLA is so different!

Keep in mind those houses are in downtown Detroit... you cannot get house like that for that price anywhere else. But still... if Jack White could do it, why can't I? If it weren't for having to send the kids to school I might have to consider it. That and a serious security system. Those houses are gorgeous!!

Of course I'm looking at run down 1500 sq ft houses for more money in Ann Arbor and area ... :(

I'm moving to Detroit.

Seriously, is it that bad there that those gorgeous houses are so cheap? The kitchen alone in the Chicago street one had to have cost 50k...unless kitchen renovations are cheaper there, too.

Wow, those houses are stunning. I feel badly for their owners, who are probably taking a bath. Unless they walked away from the foreclosure, in which case I don't.

I can relate to your struggle...the town we want to live in is overpriced for what you get, and the condition of most of what we've looked at leaves us shaking our heads. Makes us wonder how badly they really want to sell!

julie,
" is it that bad there that those gorgeous houses are so cheap? "
lol... YES
renovations cheaper... no... that is what is crazy. These houses are really nice outside and inside.

Holly,
I'm feeling like Asheville all over again. Even though the houses are cheaper than when we were here... it seems the nice houses are not on the market.
"Makes us wonder how badly they really want to sell!"
exactly. My mom made the point that maybe they are pissed at the loss they are having to take and don't want to make the effort.

Wow, those houses are gorgeous. Maybe you put the kids in a magnet school or something and take the mansion! I know you like city living...or maybe it's just NY city living? Anyway, amazing homes for the money...

Wow - those are some sweet digs. Holla!

Enjoy your time in MI and eat all the freakin' jelly beans you want. Oh how I love jelly beans.

Me again- Have your read "Mennonite in a Little Black Dress?" Just wondering if it's worth the read or totally chees-a-licious.

Holy freaking shit! That house on Chicago is BADASS!!

The money saved could easily pay for a 15-foot security wall and panic room!

Mr F,
or my sniper training...

P.O.M.,
I haven't read it.... but cheesy is good sometimes. By the way I've got the secret of the fan right now!

Just like any city, there are areas of Detroit that are nice. And these awesome houses might fit in that area (I'm not familiar with the Chicago street area though.) Schools though, that's another issue all together...

Commute from Dewitt - our houses are nice and cheaper than Ann Arbor (but come with over an hour commute, oh and no Trader Joes... never mind it's bad idea =) )

Mrs Smitty,
Chicago is in the Boston-Edison historic district. It's a nice stretch but it's not as secluded as Indian Village. I'm most comfortable with Indian Village... but the schools are, obviously, terrible. The houses aren't cheap enough for us to pay for private school. Last night we started looking at Grosse Pointe... the schools are great... and the houses are just as big!

Snow Flower and Secret Fan??? I became obsessed with foot binding for a while. But I think I'm back to the Amish.

Did I tell you about "The Help?" It was a really good read, although neither Amish nor Chinese. ha ha.
