Safety First

Crosswalk lines will be repainted within 2 weeks.

I also ordered Kid and I some reflective vests.

We have to walk pretty early, and pretty soon it will be dark.

Plus, I've always got to take things all the way.

It's more fun.

It's like last week when I was looking at special cargo bikes...

then started looking at Pedicabs (which would be awesome)...
I mean. please People, just imagine me pedaling down the street in that thing!

then discovered you can buy these...

Which is so much better than awesome there aren't even words for it.

Mr F said people would laugh at me.

I said "I don't care. It's hilarious. I'm going to have to do it. Just imagine all riding down to get pizza and locking that thing up!"

Can't you just imagine me pedaling that baby up to the front of school and getting in line with all the idling cars?!

There are some jokes that are just worth $2500... right? Plus it's green.

I told Mr F "If there was a picture of Brad & Angelina riding their kids around in one, everyone would think it was badass."

"We can't pull that off. We're not that kind of badass." Mr F said.

"Yes, we are. If people see you driving around town in a surrey... to them... you are that kind of badass."

We spent our entire Sunday that way.

Anyway back to the reflective vests

Kid said...

"Do we have to wear those?"

"Yep. Don't worry, we'll take them off before you go into the school." I replied.

"That's not what I'm worried about. What if I like boys who live on the way to school?" Kid explained.

I laughed.

Just wait till I order the old school hat...

And handheld Stop Sign.

YOU ROCK!!

I love it! Make sure Kid has to pedal on whatever device you get, though, so she doesn't lose the exercise benefit :).

I think I could call child protective services on you for forcing your kid to wear a vest. That is called psychological abuse.

I like to dress the Smitty kids in all black and dark brown and let them play close to the street. Toughen 'em up a little.

Colleen,
No worries on that front. Those kids combined outweigh me... you better believe they'll be peddling ;)

Bob,
But your cool with the hat, right? ;)

Rob,
right back at ya!

Smitty,
The fact that I let the kids ride their bikes all the way down the driveway almost gave Mr F a coronary.

I'll let you all know what happens when we get the vests. The fact that I don't know anyone here... kind of makes it easier... but it also means I probably won't be the cool kid in town either ;)

surrey = best. idea. ever.

Pulling up to the school with the line of cars would be the best...unless a boy Kid liked saw you, of course!

Mr. F. could take it to work sometimes too. I'm sure the car guys there would love it! And if it was dark, he could wear the vest too...

Totally laughed my ass off at this post. I wish I was super rich and could order you on of those surreys. It would be such fun to see the pictures and hear the stories!

Well, yeah. Once I realized Baby does not know how to use the brakes on her bike!

First victory! Now you're a Community Activist. Before you know it, you'll be Mayor. And in 12-15 years... You think I'm kidding but I'm not.

CM,
I wish. Seriously.
The awesome turn of events is that the ONE crossing guard that does cross us down closer to school... who I expressed my concerns to... is the superintendent. I just found that out now. So I went straight to the top. I'm pretty happy about that since I can now attend the school meetings and she'll know who I am and take me seriously.

Claire,
Always happy to oblige. :)

Way to make a change!! And my dad made me wear a reflective vest when walking from the park to the school all through elementary school. Keep in mind that the only street you had to cross had a crossing guard (who is still there 20 some years later). He was so super over protective of me being the first born. Honestly, I don't remember being embarrassed them. Now, I see the pictures and think....what the???????? My younger sisters get a huge kick out of it.

Suggest renting a surrey before buying one...tried one last summer with three nieces (2 of whom are well old enough to pedal), and it was INCREDIBLEY hard to move it.

And the whistle. Don't forget the whistle.

Once again, I need to read the comments before posting. Mr. F's comment about Baby not knowing how to use her brakes was priceless. Sounds like she needs a vest and a lesson in how to jump from a moving vehicle at high speeds.

Bob said...

Don't your kids walk near the river? They better wear life vests too.

Mrs Furious said...

Bob,
Oh they'll get hit by the train before they reach the river.

Deb,
Don't worry she's got the jumping down pat. And she's covered in bruises to prove it.

Rah,
hilarious.

yumaru,
point taken... it might be best to try one on our next vacation. I have a feeling I'll let this obsession go due to its completely impractical nature weather wise for Michigan anyway. It would have been funny though.
