Is that sort of like the green veggie versus green frosting thing? Is it a survival tactic? Like they know their parents think they're so cute they won't murder them (well, cute and then there's Child Protective Services and the thread of jail constantly looming), so they act like little assholes. (Yes, I called kids assholes, people. Sue me.) But when it comes to strangers, they know one wrong move might get them eaten by a dinosaur or something, so they are on their absolute best behavior? I don't know... the whole thing -- even the veggies thing -- still mystifies me.

I believe kids know that they can be themselves with their family because they know we will love them no matter what. We may not like them for a moment, but we will love them. When they are at school or out in public they don't have the love security, so they act like perfect little angels.
