Sick Baby Update

So we have just returned from the ER. It appears Baby has a virus and stomach upset from the Fluconazole but no ear infection. We are back on the Fluconazole for its duration... since it is impossible to tell which is causing all the distress and we do need to kill off the yeast. Of course since returning home she is suddenly in a *fine* mood and was evening eating a little... go figure..

re: active baby with xmas tree

We just put it up last night. He ignored it. We put the ornaments on today, he attacked it. (No glass or breakables) He pulled off quite a few still. I know this might sound cruel, but each time he did we just ran upstairs quickly and stuck him in his crib. He screamed bloody murder each time (about 4 times). We only left him there for about 20 seconds but he eventually got the idea and hasn't touched it since. Which may mean he's planning his ultimate take-down, we'll see!
(fyi, he's almost 16 months, a little older than baby I believe, so it might not work with her)

and really. HOpe you guys are better soon!

I don't think it is cruel at all. How is it? He has to learn there are consequences for his actions. You're not hitting him or yelling mean things at him. He's being placed in a safe environment. That he isn't happy isn't something you can really control.

thanks for all the messages everyone.

of course just as I am planning to switch doctors.. "FD" actually called this AM to check on Baby.. I"m not falling for it!

re:Tree
we put ours up last night too. Baby *needed* to touch it but she didn't pull on it (we get fraiser furs.. so the needles don't come right out and they are kind of stubby pokey). I'm going to do it in stages. Tonight we'll do the lights. She's a freak so absolutely there is no way I can put on the glass bulbs. But my grandmother had sent me two red felt ornaments that have some sequins on them and they look great so maybe I'll try and make a few more. You know after I meal plan, grocery shop, workout, make Baby's stocking, buy christmas presents... in my *free* time... lol

lol Michelline, I actually don't think it's cruel at all, the message seemed to get through and he didn't cry for more than five minutes all together. I just never know who is reading these comments and is going to come down all, "You did what?" (like non-parents.)

ok, this is Katieo. NOT Aaron.

ok me again. Just read that back. I didn't mean to imply ALL non-parents might've found that cruel, I just meant to say without knowing the circumstances or my little one's personality, someone (parent or not) could see that scenario as a little harsh.

ok, I'll stop now!

lol.. I have my blog set to email me when there are new comments.. that's how I can always get right back to everyone.. anyhoo.. when I got the Aaron comments I was like "oh my god!!! Aaron is commenting! That's a big deal!" then I came over and saw it was all smoke and mirrors....

fyi, it's the practice of FD (and his nice partner :-) to call if child has been to ER or even if they just got a call (i think). So don't feel like he is making a super extra special deal to woo you back (I am saying that so you don't feel any weird emotions).

We are going to try to get a tree tomorrow night...i am curious how N will do (he's 21mos for non Mrs F readers). He's really into touching everything. I almost had to break his fingers yesterday on the plane when he reached for my pop and fingers 300 times. Thank God for first class upgrades and i could throw him on the floor to play :-)

Yeast? Thrush? In her mouth or on her bum, too? If it's just her mouth, skip the antibiotics next time and try grapefruit seed extract or that purple stuff... ummm... gentian violet. (I think you're nursing, yes?) Both are OTC at good grocery or health food stores, and they work great. GV stains baby's mouth and your nipples if you use it, so be prepared for interesting questions when you go out in public. GSE is very bitter, so I've never used it, but I've been told by a lact. consult. that it works, too.

I'll shut up now.

lol.. if you knew me you'd know how funny that is.. I practically nurse my kids until they move out

It was both diaper rash and in her mouth. She'd had it before a few months ago too.. plus I had in my breasts. The meds(anti-fungal not antibiotics) did work last time no side effects and they did clear it up right away this time too. She is much better today (of course.. it is always that way.. as soon as I break down and take them in they are better) and I do think the stomach upset may very well have been related to the virus as she is still on the meds and is obviously no longer in pain. Unfortunately she had the thrush and yeast rash for 10 days before we got treatment (due to vacation) so it had gotten pretty freaking bad. I'm actually going to put her back on probiotics and hopefully prevent this from recuring.

Aww... I'm glad she's doing better. I force feed probiotics to my entire family, along with a boatload of yogurt.
