You Know What Time It Is...

Time for me to get this taken care of...

Try as I might I just can't rally to do deal with the mountain of papers, catalogs, books and receipts during the weekdays. Baby can now reach the top of my desk and I spend much of my time just trying to keep up with avalanche maintenance and never get to the filing.

Oh by the way a new desk is now not just desired but necessary. My file basket? Baby has figured out how fun it is to lift the files out and let their contents spill out all over the floor. So I now need a desk with drawers, file drawers.... and LOCKS!

Progress Report:

While you are waiting feel free to take on a little Mrs F organizational challenge.
Do you have a mountain of paperwork or something else equally undesirable?
Clock in in the comments and keep us posted on your progress!

9:34.... I'm going to get my coffee and get crackin'! I'm starting with trash and then I'm going to remove the things that don't belong. Then I'm going to file.

10:25.... had cup of coffee threw out a few envelopes and then proceeded to web surf for new desks for the last 45 minutes!

I have filing cabinet. And piled carefully on top of it is a whole lot of stuff to be filed.

I need to eat breakfast (yes at 11 am) and by then M and E will be back and I'll be on baby duty again, but I think I can start to tackle this pile today. Good luck.

The dining room table is NEARLY Clean (three CD cases, a shirt from Eli, a cookbook, a book my advisor wrote, and a small pile of mail.)

LOL @ surfing the web for a new desk instead of putting the stuff away that doesn't belong - I can so relate to that one...

btw. I have been reading your blog for quite some time now (even spreading a link to it across Germany!), but thought it was finally the time to leave something here: Love reading your thoughts/watching your vids, mrs. f :D

Funny, I'm working on my pile today also! Bills, collected mail, things I'm supposed to fill out and return, things to file! Good luck with yours!

Nutmeg,
how many place settings are you keeping on there? ;)

ML,
good luck with yours! Did you ever get a desk you like?

Sabrina,
Hey thanks for the comment, the compliments, and the link! :)

Almost 2 hours down and I've managed to visit Ikea, Ballard Designs, Ethan Allen, Target, Overstocks, Bombay Company....

Oh boy do I have an office that needs this. My office is also a kids playroom, so I have been trying to get this organized over the past week - not much progress yet. Thanks for the challenge! I will try to focus on this this weekend, after my 5 year olds softball practice - and see if I can get some before and after pictures up. Boy, it will sure feel great to get that cleaned up!

No, STILL working on the desk issue, b/c it needs storage, ability to close up and lock stuff away, of course be attractive, fit under the window, etc.

Let me know what you are looking at?? If you don't mind.

LOL!!!

four. But they are all on the edges that are closest to where we walk.

I'd have to walk around the table to get to the side that is empty and we all know i'm too lazy to do that.

My filing cabinet pile is either in the trash or in new files. I was making piles of places I wanted to put things and was like... "I need a file for membership cards." So then I was going through the drawers looking for empty places and lo and behold!?! There was already a file for membership cards. Looks like I'm theoretically organized. Just not practically organized.

The desk next to the filing cabinet is mark's domain. And it needs some sprucing and the closet in there is still an awful nightmare, but I did my pile for the day.

I JUST cleared out two boxes of paperwork that has been haunting me for months. Now I have a two inch stack on my desk of things "to do", but I'm going to take care of them this weekend. I SWEAR!!

ML,
no I haven't found anything I really like the style of yet... plus I'm limited to this one wall... and I don't really want a giant hutch type piece.

Nutmeg,
Good work!

Deb,
2 inches is nothing!

Shelley,
softball?!?! Will winter never freaking end here or what?
Good luck. And I do find posting the before pics does spur me into action.

did you look at crate and barrel online? they have decent ready-to-assemble furniture as a reasonable price. We bought a desk and a file cabinet to put under it a few years back that has worked out well for us. I would have put a link to it, but I didn't see it online anymore.

Julie,
I just checked them out. I've got a plain desk and I can get a "matching"-ish wooden file cabinet from Ballard where I got it for $230. The hutches (which might be better) are just too much money there and at CB :( I'm back where I always am... trying to figure out what I want to spend on a temporary solution.

SO funny. I read your emails and thought (in the best way possible) Mrs. F is procrastinating!

And then I come here and see this! :) My intuition is spooky!

Mrs Furious said...

Heather,
LOL! You better believe I'm procrastinating! Mr F & Kid are off sledding and Baby is sleeping so I'm telling myself I deserve some time off. I'm researching homeschooling techniques... which can really suck you in!... but it is educational ;)

I bought a paper shredder...a great big one and have shredded a 15 gallon trashbag full of crap!

Mrs Furious said...

Robin,
way to go!

I have... um... thrown out the trash and put some of the things that don't belong away.... and that is it... for now.

Julie said...

Mrs F, I did a similar thing as you with crate and barrel...a desk like yours and then a matching wood file cabinet that fits under it. No hutch here either. Oh I did not mean any of those expensive CB stuff...I meant the anything between 200--400 with everything included! Good luck with it!

i wish society would finally go paperless - how great would that be? pipedreams? probably.

Mrs Furious said...

Amy,
It is bad enough I have to pay everything and open everything but I also have to find places to put it... it drives me crazy!

Julie,
I think I might just get the coordinating cabinet and put it under. $230 seems like a lot for a freaking file cabinet but I can't stand the stupid ones that aren't really a complete drawer.

I have my before pictures posted:

Before Post

I made a pretty good dent today, hoping to finish tomorrow. Pretty scary looking at the pictures, thank goodness my whole house isn't as bad as my office. Funny that I have to clean 3 rooms to get my office organized.

Mrs Furious said...

Shelley,
good work! :)

I'm finishing this up ASAP and heading to Target for a little "alone time" ;)

1:52 AM?! You're up almost as late as the Furiouses!

Well I had a little insomnia last night....

BTW, it is full on spring here, daffodils are out and everything. Still a little rain here and there, but for the most part great weather.
