it looks like a nice house. but having lived in a different home every year for the past 10 years or so, i can tell you... i cannot stand having sinks that stand alone in the bathroom like that. i need countertops!!!

I like the kitchen, living area looks a little small unless there is more to it. How many bedrooms? No yard with kids would scare me. The house is fixed up cute - nice floors.

I don't get what the problem is with the yard - can't you just put a fence up?

I love the dining room and what looks to be a screened in porch!!!!
The mosquitos in NC are different than they are up here, and according to N, you'll take a few years to get used to them, so make sure you have bug spray on hand!

We love West Asheville! It's so pretty. That's where the in-laws are, so if you need anything, let us know!

Sorry it was such a let-down! Remember, you can do anything for a year. If it's awful, we'll always let you come back!

Very cute inside. "Quaint" and "Charming" come to mind, but in a good way, kwim? It looks like there may be a LITTLE yard outside (at least by the pictures)..a little work and perhaps a cute fence and you could have a "small oasis away from the world". A little work to the cement patio, some nice flowers, and voila!

And what is that room that the stairs going outside come off of? It looks like a giant sunroom. Perhaps you could change it to a 3 season room by adding real windows or insulate to make it usable year round..definitely looks like a lot of extra space!

Can't wait to hear more!!

The house looks great. It has a similar look and feel of the house you are in now.

With regards to the lack of yard for the kids, are there any open spaces (land, playgrounds, etc) near you? We have a very small yard, but across the street there is a piece of land that the neighbors let my boys use.

Good luck with this all!

Me likey the dining room the most!

When you pull up it looks like a huge double-lot yard, but it turns out the "extra" lot is separate.

When I was there in May, i found out that the same guy owns this house, the lot and has built a new home on the other side.

This time, we immediately inquired about the lot, and apparently the "no-yard factor" has been a dealbreaker in the past and he agreed to sell it. Our offer was for both plots.

We'll see what happens...

Laura,
that yard is the adjoining lot... which we are bidding on so if they let us buy it then the yard is actually nice. The house had a big lot then was subdivided into three lots: our, a new construction next door to the right, and that lot with the playhouse to the left.

Haley,
I love the blue fireplace... total selling point to me... and I'm hoping we can buy the painting that they have over it.

Eurydice,
we have a pedestal sink now... since we are clutter-y people the lack of counter is actually good for us ;)

Shelly,
Um it's not big... that is the living space. I think it is 1600 sqf total. It has 3 bedrooms but one of them has the door to the screened in porch so I think we'll use that as an office and have the girls share for now.

Yes that is a huge screened in porch and since it is much more mild there the kids could pretty much play out there 9 months of the year.

Marie,
Yes if we get it and stay we'll probably do something to finish off the screened in porch space.

Torey,
Word to the mosquitos! I already noticed that and suppose we'll really appreciate having a screened in porch.
Our realtor is a jackass so I think I really didn't get shown the area in a way that makes a good impression... it's like I came to Ann Arbor and only saw Washtenaw by Arborland!

Mr Furious said...

Funny that everyone is so taken with the hardwood floors... that's like a given to me. After our house and every apartment I had the previous ten years, wall-to-wall carpeting would be foreign to me.

In Asheville?

We went down there with Baby looking like she had measles with the bites on her forehead, and last night I had to pick up Kid's bike and hustle us all around the block because we were getting devoured!

But, yes, I'll love the screen factor.

Mrs Furious said...

Mr F,
"wall-to-wall carpeting would be foreign to me."
Foreign and something I noted and didn't like in many of the houses we saw. It should be noted that we really only looked at/like old homes and which were all built with hardwood floors... if there is carpeting it is not desired or a terribly good sign about the underlying flooring.

"NOTE: I'm old"
yes the whole time I was reading that... 20s & 30 somethings I was thinking "um you're FORTY"

Mrs Furious said...

Mr F,
Yes in Asheville... I was bitten all over.

Sorry you are having such a frustrating time and I hope things start to smooth out soon. I was really hoping for you that you would get more for your money down there.

Love the house! It really has the same kind of feel as your current one...at least in pictures.

Random subject change - but did you see where there is a show on Amish teenagers on ABC tonight? It is about their year where they can do anything. I totally thought of your obsession when I saw the preview!

Mrs Furious said...

J&K,
Yes it is very similar to our house... which is why I immediately felt comfortable in it.

Thanks on the Amish tidbit!!! I got home at 10 checked my messages and then RAN downstairs to tape it... I just caught it! :)

Mrs.F, I love this house, it kind of reminds me of the bits we've seen of your house there in Ann Arbor, its feels like a home and they've done a beautiful job maintaining/updating it!!!

I love Austin and you know Cobble Hill is where my sister lived, off Baltic Street right near the promenade...if its anything like that...well it sounds good to me!!!

Mrs. F, I am excited, a little bit, for you guys...but maybe I'm just dying to move myself.... keeping my fingers crossed for you!!!

Just FYI (you may already know this) There is a Documentary Called "Devil's Playground" about the year that Amish Teens spend in our world. It's absolutely fascinating!

Hi Furiouses! Egads, there's certainly been a lot going on for you all. So sorry to hear that the trip was such a nightmare and that you had such a random real estate agent. I love the photos of this house; I surely hope you get it with the 2nd lot. The blue fireplace is fantastic!

Loved the Carroll Gardens reference - I lived there in 1992-93! I can't imagine what it must be like now.

It's very charming. I hope you get what you want!

The house is very cute and if you get the double lot it will be really nice! Best of luck!
