This Week The Plan

I'm definitely struggling with time management while managing 3 kids of vastly different ages, interests, and eating requirements. I also don't want to take too much time away from my niece's visit. We've had tons of fun (and spent way more money than I would have liked).

I'm still researching finance stuff up the wazoo. I'm learning a lot and feeling like I'm almost ready to put some new things in place. Stay tuned on that front as I will surely pass along anything I decide to do.

I'm freaking excited today because we got our new National Geographic in the mail. It's feature story is on saving energy at home. This is one of the big things I've been wanting to tackle. Our electric and heating bills have been through the roof since we moved down here and we need to find ways (and implement them) to cut our bills. Pronto.

My Tivo died (yeah the one that is less than 6 months old) so my workouts got sidetracked last week. We've got the replacement and I'm hoping to start up once my niece goes home tomorrow. I really need to get back in shape. The whole situation is killing me... physically, emotionally, the whole nine yards.

Okay... on to the plan...

Menu:

Sunday - Scallion & Ginger Shrimp w/ Noodles

Monday - Spaghetti & Meatballs w/ green beans

Tuesday - Black Bean & Turkey Tacos w/ avocado

Wednesday - Salmon Noodle Casserole w/ sauteed mushrooms, salad

Thursday - Cornflake Crusted Tilapia, broccoli in garlic oil

Friday - Pizza, salad, SANGRIA

Saturday - Quesadillas w/ rice & beans

Sunday - Penne w/ Turkey Meat Sauce & green beans

That's it for now. It's really hard for me to get anything done until we get back in our regular (non hosting) routine.

I'll leave you with this....

That's me attempting to make kettle corn... note the eye protection. We were chanting "horrible, horrible, horrible burns" the entire time after reading the warnings that went along with the recipe. The whole experience was traumatizing and better left to carnival professionals.

I had to watch the video TWICE -- AT WORK, I enjoyed it so much. Hysterical!!!

I love Kid's suggestion -- just go with your gut! She should be a motivational speaker.

Glad you guys are having so much fun!!

On a totally other note, I found this site and read his recipe for whole wheat bread..I made it w/ my mixer this time, but think it could easily work w/ a bread maker and am going to try that next time. The biggest thing seems to be the pre-ferment..you put the whole wheat flour, water, and a bit of the yeast together the night before and let set overnight. It hydrates the whole wheat and makes it more bread-like and less crumby (kwim?). Anyways, mine came out EXACTLY like a loaf of Peppridge Farms bread. He tries to explain the chemistry a bit behind it..interesting!

Heather,
ah that was my niece... Kid was too busy being retarded to say anything of value ;)

Marie,

Sooooo... was the kettle corn good?

Deb,
No. It was a total failure. Plus there was serious risk of getting "horrible horrible horrible burns".

I'm excited cause I just scored a breadmaker on Craigslist!! I go to pick it up on Friday! I'm psyched to try your recipes and not have to buy bread! Also I want to make the pizza!!

I love the video. Sorry the kettle corn didn't work out! But I'm glad y'all didn't get horrible horrible burns!

Sorry I've been MIA on commenting lately...my computer has been acting whacky and your latest posts aren't loading for some reason?!?!

I'm so glad you didn't get horrible horrible horrible burns with the kettle corn :)

Yikes-trying to entertain 3 children of varying ages...I feel completely out of the loop on what's in with 12 year olds but I can totally catch you up to speed on spongebob, etc. Hope you have had a great visit w/ your niece...I have no doubt she's had a great week at the Furious household....

horrible, horrible, horrible burns!

That's my favorite kind of warning.

I especially like the ones that say something like "Danger of electrocution, burns, coma, and DEATH!"

On the other hand I have on my work bulletin board, instructions for a lamp kit that says "Feel Confidant that this will be a fun and rewarding project." It's the first time I"ve gotten instructions that are all encouraging like "you will ENJOY putting this lamp together" (or else!)

Just wanted to say--loving that the weekly plan is back! If your ever bored (haha)I'd love to see what a typical weeks full meals are. (breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks) I am just in awe of your grocery bill!! We have about the same amount, but with only half organic. We're off for vacation for a week, so the house is pretty devoid of food..so maybe when we come back I can go 100%.
