Priorities

On Friday as we cleaned up the dinner dishes I asked Mr F...

"What is the one thing you miss most about not having money? What's the first thing you'd add back?"

"Going out to eat." He said.

"Me too." I replied.

Not vacations. Not new cars. Not furniture or clothes. Just give us a decent restaurant!

I can suck everything else up. I can budget out grocery money. He can drive a junker. But FOR THE LOVE OF GOD we just want to be able to go to a restaurant (not fancy folks!) and order WHAT WE WANT. And not even think about it.

Going out to eat had the biggest impact on our daily quality of life.

And it's the first thing we're adding back.

I'm not saying every day... but... once a week... that would be amazing! Just to be able to relax and enjoy someone else's cooking. Talk to my family. I really miss that.

What's yours?

I miss vacations. With a passion. This is the first time I haven't been on vacation in years and years... And there isn't one in the future, either. And it's starting to mess with my psyche.

I WOULD enjoy a car with a radio...but feeling like we can't afford to try the new pub/restaurant that's literally around the corner from our house is far more depressing.

Tracey,
vacations was harder on me last year. Last year I would have done anything to be able to pack up and go to DisneyWorld.
But cooking 21 meals a week 52 weeks a year is getting OLD!!!

Mr F,
yeah that was depressing. But the scrambled eggs we had instead were almost as good as going out... right?!!!

I'd be happy for take-out. To be able to say hey, its been a crappy day, can you grab chinese on the way home?

Next up would be shopping. got halloween costumes and winter coats to buy in the near future. wish I could just BUY them (and not even expensive ones!) rather than have to fret over each item (x3 girls..)

Marie,
What goes around comes around. Hold tight and check your mail in 7-10 days.

My sister and I wanted to go to our cousin's daughter's wedding in San Fran on Oct. 31 and we were all set to do it until the newspaper made us take 5 furlough days and cut our hours - I would still go, impulsively and recklessly, but my sister watched a Suzie Ormand (sp?) show and that put an end to that.

I was just thinking about how you had mentioned buying the discounted restaurant gift cards a while back & was wondering how that went.

For me, it's kids' activities: soccer, gymnastics, flag football, art, & Spanish all went out the window. I just cannot afford the expense. So they have to suck it up and run XCountry w/ me at Kensington instead.

P/F,
The restaurant.com gift certificates? I wouldn't do it again. We ended up spending more than we would have restaurants we wouldn't have gone to. We don't have a lot of choices in this area so maybe it was more limiting for us than for other people.

Claire,
Oh yes you were "Denied!". I love that show.

I have a question...what do you order when you go out to eat??? We don't go out. Much. But, when we do I'm always ordering salad...and I'm kind of bored by that choice!

It's eating out for me too...Luckily, B takes me to our favorite restaurant every now and then (meaning every 4 months or so)...we go in, order what we want, and always end up spending $30 or less..LOL...for the three of us.

It really is great to be able to talk over your food...it doesnt seem to happen lik ethat at home, does it?

Going out to eat...having an actual "date night"...that would be just lovely! Think: pay for a sitter and a nice dinner out??

**sniff**

I cooked haggis this weekend. No other reason than it sounded gross. Turned out to be actually pretty good. If you can stomach pictures of slimy organ meats, go check out my blog.

Ms. F,

I too am incredibly poor and getting poorer, and I too long for the days of discretionary income for casual dining.
I may have to sell the farm (again) or default on my mortgage.
Hope all else is well in NC. Miss the photos of them youngins.

Smitty,
You guys don't have any family nearby?

Little Hill Farm,
Oh I'm sorry to hear it. Hope things don't get that far.

Mr F took some good ones of the girls yesterday... I'll put them up.
