Still Sick

Quick update: Baby is STILL sick.  Significantly.  There have been a few up and downs over the last couple of days.  Her croup came back when the long lasting steroid wore off on Thursday.  I took her back to the doctor because we just can't break this fever and her breathing was still labored... they checked for pneumonia and said to go home and monitor her breathing and come back on Saturday AM if she still hadn't broken her fever.  Thursday night her breathing became fairly restricted, I remembered we had a leftover dose of Prednisone, so we gave her that which helped a lot and we managed to avoid the ER.  At that point I was still extremely hopeful that we were so close to the end of it.  Friday her fever broke and stayed that way for about 8 hours then came back (whoa, that was depressing... and distressing). We've been battling the fever ever since. I called the doctor this morning, as instructed, thinking they'd send us in for more x-rays and blood work, but someone else was on call and they dismissed the fever (?) and told us to come in on Monday.  That will be day 10.  We're getting frustrated with every doctor giving us vastly different instructions... and don't really know what we should do anymore.  Her breathing is okay tonight (so far), but her fever just took another swift uptick.  I don't know.  They still haven't given her any kind of blood test to rule out an infection of some sort and I'm really hoping that happens on Monday. I haven't had much more than 3 hours of sleep a night for the last 8 days, dealing with her coughing/breathing and monitoring her fever.  I'm exhausted.  And I'm still sick with the flu (I just can't seem to quit it, myself... something about the no sleep is probably not helping).

That's all.

Oh no! I'm so sorry. My littles are sick with croup and the flu right now and it's hard. But we're nowhere near the level of seriousness of Baby. Poor thing. And poor you!! I really hope this ends soon for all of you. Believe me, I know how stressful this kind of thing can be. It's ridiculously taxing.
Hang on. Don't die! We're praying for you and Baby.
Xoxo
P.s. don't be afraid to go hysterical on the doctors. ;)

When my son was 7, we went through the same thing. When your regular doctor is not on call, and you get conflicting instructions, it is so upsetting. The fever spiking is a sign she is fighting some sort of icky virus and her body gets warmer to kill the virus. But the virus keeps coming back, apparently. It's so discouraging, I know. My son lost about 5 pounds during the ordeal. It was the sickest he's ever been, but finally got better after 2 weeks! Never knew what it was.... Hang in there!

Her fever broke this morning, and she was so excited. the 100th day of school for Kindergarten was supposed to be Friday and she was devastated that she had to miss it.... then Friday was a snow day and we were hoping she'd be able to go to school tomorrow. BUT her fever just spiked back up and now she can't go :( This is so frustrating. I'm still so sick, which is weirdly comforting because at least I know this virus is this long lasting and not that she has some kind of horrific illness (unless we both do....)

Katieo,
I am definitely going hysterical tomorrow... I'm so exhausted and sick myself... that I won't be able to help it! I asked her pediatrician if she'd listen to my lungs (just to be sure I'm not the one making Baby sick) and she laughed at me and said no... and I nearly started crying because I am so sick and I can't go to the doctor because I'm constantly taking her to the doctor &/or trying to protect the public from her. I was hoping I'd be able to go tomorrow... but now if we're still sick we'll be back at the ER (I hope!!).

Jen,
"but finally got better after 2 weeks"
Oh, thanks for letting me know. It's getting discouraging so far into this.

Just a thought, what if you ask the doctor about Tamiflu? I've seen it advertised all over t.v. lately. Might be worth asking. I can't believe Baby's dr. would not listen to your lungs.

Bless her heart. Took my girl to the doctor today and her bronchitis has settled into pneumonia and she has strep for the first time at 14??? I have never had it and neither has my sister or her kids and I know she has been exposed to it numerous times. Weird shit going around this year. I hope you get some answers tomorrow and you and baby get some rest!

Still sick. I ended up taking a turn for the worse yesterday and things just escalated very quickly with chills/fever so I knew that I had developed a secondary infection. Went to Dr and I ave a sinus infection and got antibiotics. Baby still is cycling through a low grade fever. Never went over 100 today, which is an improvement and her energy is close to normal. They think she could have this residual low grade fever for another couple of days. If we hit day 14, Friday, then they'll be concerned, or if she develops a seondary infection. So, right now we are just monitoring her fever to make sure it stays below 101 & that she doesn't develop symptoms of pneumonia or other infection. Fingers crossed!! Now, that I know I will feel better (eventually) I'm feeling less overwhelmed. I really hope we can get through this without her getting an infection. 11 days of sick is long enough!!!
