What Have I Done?

Okay I don't fully know how to explain this but tomorrow I can expect a couple strapping young Mormon men at my door.

Did you get interested/inspired by the nienie blogs? I'm not a religious person myself, but while soaking in all of nie's previous posts I am more and more interested in the strength she has in her faith. So interesting to me.

Well kind of...that is the link I followed and I kind of figured what the hell I'll read it... I thought they would mail it!!!

But I have a very good real life friend who is Mormon and a lot of the bloggers who comment here are Mormon too.

I don't want to convert but I really just love learning about people's beliefs... I find it fascinating.

Just don't touch their asses Mrs. F....that's against the mission rules.

Ok I laughed OUT LOUD when I read that. And then laughed even harder when I read Amy's comment. (fyi: they might send two women instead...)

And hey, any question you've EVER had about us crazy Mormons...now is your chance!

Oh I knew the Mormons in the house were going to think this was hilarious!

What do you mean I can't touch their asses?! They can touch mine right?!

I've been planning out our conversation which I think will start something like...

"So do any of your older sisters blog?"

Oh boy, I can't wait to hear about this!

I think this will be a fun post to read (all of your posts are fun, but this one will be so interesting!)

(Laughing with all the other Mormons) I was a missionary when I was younger (yes, girls can go too), and I would have loved teaching you Mrs. F. It would have been a hoot. Show them some love, just keep your hands to yourself. Hee hee.

Ok, months after emailing you I will now post my 1st comment. I LOVE Mormons!!!I recorded a whole PBS story on the Mormon faith not too long ago and it was fascinating. I want to go to SLC, Utah in a big way.

I also like Jehovah's Witnesses. I have a lady that comes to talk to me every couple of weeks. She's been stopping by my house for 3 years now and we have become friends.

I'm like you and I love religions...anything from Buddhism to Wicca. I was raised Catholic, send my son to a Baptist school, and most recently regularly attended a local Church of God.

You kind of sent up the Mormon Bat signal into the sky when you hit that button!

A close friend did a mission in Ecuador. He was gone for two years.

He came to visit me at work on the way home from the airport (seriously a close friend) and I went to hug him when I saw him and he about broke his neck trying to dodge me because his mission wasn't over completely.

Good luck with the boys. Julia Sweeney has a great bit about how Mormonism is so weird and how they have all these crazy weird beliefs (because she invited two missionaries in to talk to them and ask them questions) and then she reflected on how CRAZY Catholicism (and christianity) sounds if you come at it from the point of view of a real outsider and Mormonism sounded a whole lot less crazy.

I totally LOL'd!!! Just this afternoon, I went to the LDS site and read about Joseph Smith (wondering how it was all validated)! Almost ordered the book---almost!

Okay, now after reading the other comments, I have to ask--they cannot be touched while on their missions?

Mrs Furious said...

Kat,
Glad you all weathered the storm!

If you don't want visitors you can read it online ;)

Kat,
I'm pretty sure they can *touch* members of the opposite sex... just not touch them ;)
They're supposed to be devoted to their faith and their mission and not fraternizing with the opposite sex for romantic reasons until after their mission.

Tiffatki,
Oh I'm glad this outed you! ;)
Sometimes I think people must thing I'm a total freak or really religiously wayward... but I really just find all the cultural and spiritual differences to be so interesting.

Haley,
LOL

Nutmeg,
I agree. While there are some things that are hard for me to believe I fully recognize that if you look at any religion they are all hard to believe... well... they are all hard for me to believe.
