What Do NudeFest, Nudeville, & Googling Nude Schools Have In Common?

Kid's love of being completely unadorned.

Hey where's all the text I promised you?!
Ladies and Gents my butt hurts. Maybe I'll get back to this tomorrow... or maybe I'll tell you about the platonic personal ad I answered. What?! I never told you about that?!

Nude vs. dress up. Interesting. Kent is a nude. Kara is a dress up.

I was a nude when I was a kid. I ran around in nothing but my panties. One day my dad told me it was time to start wearing clothes. I think I must have been 8 or 9. I had actually forgotten all about it until I watched the video. He didn't make a big deal out of it. He just said something like, "you're getting too old to run around in nothing but panties." I said, "ok," and it was never an issue.

I don't think it's a big deal that she is nude. As long as she isn't taking her clothes off at school or in front of company, who cares? I am always amazed at how unihibited kids are.

Robin,
""you're getting too old to run around in nothing but panties." I said, "ok," and it was never an issue. "
That is good to know.

Enjoy being human. Your going to hate it soon enough." LOL! That's kind of good motto though...enjoy it until you don't.

Good attitude on the nudefest. Really, who cares? She is 6 years old. We tend to put our own adult feelings/reactions on things about our kids or what we think they are feeling. It's good to remind ourselves that hey, they are still KIDS. That said, good rule about wearing clothes around the workers. Just sayin'.

Murphy is a total nudie. He is also the kind of kid that has issues with how the clothes "feel" on him. Got to get the socks on just so and such. I practice lots of deep breathing (and yelling inside my head) most mornings. Jack was neither a dress up or a nudie.

I hate making typos...I do actually know how to spell the word "you're" correctly. Just so you know.

Julie,

Exactly. I've just tried to get to the point where I'm like "why do I care?" If we are leaving the house I don't need to go through all that anymore than she does.

and LOL I didn't even notice the typo!

The only problem the nudity is really a problem is like what just happened:

Putty needed to go outside. We don't have a fence... so you have to go out there with him. I'm feeling sore and didn't want to go wrangle him back in. So... I called Kid to do it but D'oh! She's nude. So I had to go out and do it anyway.

This is cracking me up, "D'oh! She's nude." LOL

I think part of what makes it funny for me is that we don't use the word "nude." We're "naked" people.

Mrs Furious said...

LOL I have no idea why I call it "nude"... it's kind of a thing that started in reference to her.... or because she likes to say it. I forgot about "naked" as a word.

FYI - my kids are playing in the back yard. I just went to check on them, and Kent was in his underwear. His shirt and pants were strewn all over the yard. (It's 70 degrees, I guess he was hot.)

This pertains to a couple of posts ago, but you could google "The Grocery Cart Challenge", if you'd like to read more about compacting your grocery bill...

LOL about the difference between nude and naked. I prefer nekked, and I like to say it with a funny accent.

Nude reminds me of lipstick.

As I kid I insisted on wearing the exact same thing for days on end. Maybe it was the routine -- I love me some routine, and I guess it started early.

The more I learn about kid, the more I'm kinda in awe of her. She seems pretty charming...

Kat,
Thanks! That got me off into a whole new world of frugal blogs I never knew about!!

Heather,
LOL about the lipstick... you are your beauty products! ;)
And thanks... she's a pretty neat character.

Fascinating topic. My 8 1/2 year old is a nudist with panties. Her father is just now trying to start the "you are too old to be running around the house in just panties." Do you think that will light the match to body image issues? I honestly want an opinion. When she takes off her clothes to take a bath, she runs through the house (nude) to the laundry room to put her dirty clothes there. I have caught my husband shaking his head, almost as if in disgust. I have told him that a girl's view of herself relies a lot on how her father views her and reacts when she comes in the room. I don't think it has made an impact on him yet. He has also scolded her on a Saturday for only having pants on and not a shirt. But he walks around without a shirt on!!!!!

My 4 year old and 2 year old are nevernudes. To the extreme. They both FREAK out if, say, I try to put them to the breakfast table on with just a diaper/panties on. My 2 year old screams "dress! dress!" She also changes clothes MULTIPLE times a day. If she can't get to her room because of a locked door, she will wander in the laundry room and find someone's dirty clothes to wear!!

I honestly think your decision to just go with it, with the parameters you have set, is probably the best thing you can do.

Christy,
I think making a set decision and sticking to it is the best way to deal with. I don't think having to wear clothes or being allowed not to would either way lead to body issues. I do fear that having one parent have one rule and another have another makes it become more of an issue than it really is. Your husband sounds like mine... and while I don't know how the kids (or Kid) interpret his comments I did worry about the message they might be sending... especially since she loves being nude. If Mr F said "I'm uncomfortable with it" then we'd just set a consistent rule and both enforce it as policy. Until then I'm just going to let it run it's course.

And I think having an 8 year old who is still comfortable with her body is a VERY good sign that you all have given her a positive self image.

It's true. Clinique has a creamy nude shade that's lovely. I wonder where my tube is. It was a bit too matte for my taste.

Sometimes I fantasize about being a Clinique lady. If only it paid...

Heather,
Hmm.... I always want to wear a uniform....

Christy - you probably saw my comment that my dad told me I was getting too old to run around in panties. (I'm pretty sure I was about 8 or 9 at the time.) I don't remember it being a big deal at all. He said it once and I started wearing a long shirt over my panties. I don't know if it would have become more of an issue if I hadn't wanted to comply.

As far as body image issues. My mom did way more to damage my body image by always dieting and complaining about being fat than my dad ever did by commenting that I needed to wear a shirt.

(Sorry for taking over Mrs. F, just thought I had something to add since I actually remember this situation.)

Mrs Furious said...

Robin,
not a problem. I've been happy to have your input since I was a total nevernude and it was just not an issue for me.
And agreed on the diet & exercise stuff.

I think I'm just going to let Kid run her course and re-address it in a few years. Like you say... if she is ready to comply by then it's just not an issue. If not... well... then she's might really be a nudist... and we'll have to get creative!

The funny thing is that until I read this post, I had totally forgotten that I ran around mostly naked my whole childhood.

Christy said...

Robin, I did see your post. And I think what I have learned or figured out rather, is that it's the fact that he and I disagree and are drawing attention to it, which might make her think something is wrong with her body.

I was a nudist too, so she gets it honest ;)

J.T. ran over to the neighbor's house naked this summer. He knocked on the door to see if their daughter was there to play. The mom told me he had his hands over his privates! For some reason he doesn't feel the need to be naked in the house, only outside. He hates a wet swimsuit though, and he takes it off no matter what!

I think Kid's nudeness is great. I think not making a big deal out of it is the way to go.

Mia cemented her status as a nevernude this morning. I took her pjs off along with panties and she said she had to potty. I find her 5 minutes later standing in the bathroom with tears running down her face because she didn't want to come out of the bathroom without any underwear on. She is 4.

That is an adorable/hilarious image. So funny.

Christy,
LOL
I can't even imagine that!
