Doctor Doctor Give Me The News

Well it's been six and a half weeks since that fateful ice skating trip.

I don't know what I was expecting.

I was kind of thinking that he would tell me it's been healing up nicely and to return to business as usual.

Or that I'd totally messed things up and needed a butt amputation.

Not that I like things to be all or nothing... or anything.

I had three sets of xrays (cannot wait for that bill) and the verdict is:

"Not healed"

What does that mean exactly? I don't really know. The doctor graced me with his presence for all of 2 minutes.

Basically it is healing slower than he had expected. I haven't done anything to screw it up though... it's just taking awhile.

"You did break it." He said.

Yes. I thought we'd established that 6 weeks ago.

He said I still need to watch my sitting. So that's a hinderance.

"No bike riding."

Duh.

I go back in 6 more weeks.

So that is a total of $120 in copays and all the xray fees... which will be repeated next freaking month.

Awesome.

That sucks...kinda like a "thanks for nothing" visit. I gotta tell you the truth..if it was me and I continued to feel (slowly) better, I would just cancel next month. Because, really, the surgery is only done for chronic pain due to the unhealed bone..even if its not healed "properly", as long as its not bothering you there is really no dire need for surgery. Just my 2 cents!

Man that stinks!!!!!

Bummer, dude. And no, that was not a pun. I swear. OK, maybe a little.

Sucks that you have to go back, but thank goodness the pain has lightened up.

Marie,
I'll keep that in mind. Because I have a feeling I'll go in 6 weeks it won't be healed and they tell me to come back... in... 6 weeks!

Supermom,
Yeah I'm kind of depressed about it.

Haley,
It's hard to resist those butt puns ;)

I want a butt amputation!

doctors are annoying

Your poor butt. . .

Sorry your doctor is stupid. No bike riding? Really? That hurts my butt just to think about and it's not broken!!!

I have some massive pregnancy related tailbone pain, so I can't even imagine what a broken butt would feel like. Go easy on it!

Good grief. Well. At least you know that it isn't healed completely...and you should still take it easy so you don't accidently re-break it...

So that could SAVE you money. Cause if you didn't learn that today, and over did it, and re-broke it (if that is even a word) - then that would cost you a LOT more time/effort/and money. j

Trying to find a bright side..

Hope your butt heals faster sooner. lol

Doctors ARE annoying, and I don't just mean my husband.

Seriously, I go to my pain management dr. every month, he's nice and I love him because he finally took all my problems seriously, but my insurance copays are now 50 dollars for a specialist. I'm going to tell him that I'll come every two months and promise not to stop taking my medicine without permission.

I mean, all that happens is he checks to make sure I can still move my limbs, that I don't have vertigo and that I'm not in excruciating pain. I am pretty sure I can call and make an appointment if I'm in that much pain, otherwise there isn't much reason to see him at this point.

My favorite thanks for nothing appointment was 5 years ago after I pretty much lost use of my right hand because it was so weak I couldn't hold a pen (and my current physiatrist has since diagnosed that problem as an ulnar nerve injury). I went to rheumatologist for pain who said I should go to a neurologist for the weakness and the neurologist was all "You seem fine to me, come back in nine months." UM. SERIOUSLY? If you think there is nothing wrong with me now, why would I come back in 9 months?

Okay, sorry... little irritated by the medical community in general.

Sorry your butt is still broke! And it's making you even more BROKE!

Oh no! What hurts more the news or the copays? Sending you healing thoughts!!!

" If you think there is nothing wrong with me now, why would I come back in 9 months?"
LOL... that is so true.

Preppy Mama,
I'm not sure ;)

Me, Myself & I,
It's never wrong to look for the bright side. :)
And I was saying to Mr F that I was glad I went just because I would have assumed I was doing better and I do still need to be careful.

Torey,
I know. Like #1 the no sitting didn't kind of rule out bike riding to begin with.
#2 I'm not an idiot.

I had tailbone pain right before and after I had Baby... I was actually worried I had broken something. It got better after a couple of weeks.

Shelley,
And I need more butt.
Maybe we could workout a transplant arrangement. ;)

I need me some butt, always have even when I was super heavy so if they have to remove yours I'd love to add it to mine, I have always wanted a cute little bubble butt
;0)

I truly do hope your feeling better and soon, this has been going on far too long and the cost, ouch! the thought of paying for needed medical stuff is just so odd to me and what a wrench that throws in your financial planning, craziness..

Shirls,
I'm not 100% sure but I think that medical bills are the #1 cause of bankruptcy in the US. I now know why.

I have to say that I am with Marie on this about not going back. Went to my gyno on Monday for check up and found out they don't take my insurance anymore (Aetna - no one takes it here in Myrtle Beach) - that was a nice surprise!

Mrs Furious said...

Claire,
I'm sorry to hear about your insurance.

Yes I think I might not go back. I have to make good decisions and I don't want to get into debt over a check up. I'm willing to give up the dentist for Mr F & I this year but I still need to get Kid in and I am overdue on getting Baby her check up and vaccines. Those have to come first.

I've got an ample tush, I'm willing to make it avaiable for transplant...
I'm kind of like the others in that I might not go back either, in our family we're that way, we'll doctor ourselves as long as we can...this is not always best.
I'm glad to hear you are on the mend though, slowly but surely you'll improve!!! Hang in there!!

I had shingles last summer. (A mild case--not icepick to the body pain.)
I finally made an appointment with a doctor, since I also needed a checkup and figured this was the perfect time.

I go in, she says I have shingles. I had guessed that. Then she gives me a prescription to make it go away, which it is doing already. Then she tells me I have to come back in 10 days.

"Why"", I ask.

"So I can make sure you're okay", she answers.

"But won't I know that?," I ask. "I mean, I won't be in pain or itchy, I won't have a rash, and I'll feel fine."

She got kind of upset.

Upshot--I did not go back, and I haven't died of undiagnosed long-term shingles. I also didn't get the prescription, figuring that if it was disappearing on its own, I should just let it wend its merry way.

Medical care in this country is seriously f-d up!!

Kiki,
It's funny since typically I'm a pretty pro doctor sort... but... I've always (up until now) had excellent coverage and it didn't cost me much if anything to be thorough. Now... going just for a pat on the head doesn't quite seem worth the $60 co pay. I'm might start adopting your method.

The Other Susan,
Oh that is funny.

This totally, totally sucks. I know the feeling of expecting to be further along with healing, only to find out that no, you're actually just slightly better. ARRGGGGHHH.

The doc sounds like a total douche. I'm sorry you're having to shell out your hard-earned co-pays. :(
