Remember how I said Jillian's 30 Day Shred was kind of disappointing? It wasn't that hard?
Well I was not lying. I was able to get through the workout just fine.
But shortly after that I could tell something was not right.
Much like Liz, who commented about the shin splints after doing the level 2 workout without shoes, I also did the routine without shoes. As soon as Jillian and her crew came out in shoes I thought "uh oh"... but then thought "whatever it's only 20 minutes."
I'm not sure if it was the "butt kicks" (but I think it was) but my hamstrings started seizing up yesterday afternoon.
The workout is really devoid of any real stretching so I popped down on my trap table and tried to stretch those babies out.
I even did a full treadmill workout to try and loosen them back up and stretched again.
Sometime in the night I needed to go to the bathroom. When I got up and tried to take a step I almost fell over.
This morning I can barely walk. I have to walk around with my knees bent in a kind of squat.
So I'm debating whether I should work through the pain and do the routine again (this time with shoes and stretching immediately after) or if I should take today off. I can actually do all the moves without pain... it's just walking that seems to be a problem... so for sure grocery shopping is out.

I say work through the soreness, but just do level 1 today. I think that my husband almost fell down our front stairs after his first day of Jillian Michaels.
I would definitely work out lightly through it.
I am not sure I would do it today. I take a Strength class at my gym and they told me not to do it 2 days in row. The shred is basically a 'strength' work out.
Or I would just do level 1 lightly...with sneakers on;)
I always wonder how come on the
Biggest Loser, they never show anyone in that super-hurting-day-after pain since they do these crazy ass workouts all the live long day. Or did I just miss that part of the show?
POM--I did catch one of the interview-type parts (where they were talking about who to vote off) and they were all in reclining chairs w/ ice bags strapped from their ankles up to their UPPER thighs... It looks like they probably have to ice-down each night to try to put off some of the soreness. But it was a real quick blurb and I've never seen it since...
Like I said before I haven't done this workout before but Julie's comment made me think...does she have you doing it everyday on her rotation? I used to have it but can't for the life of me find it now. :(
If it's strength training you should never do back to back workouts. When strength training you need a day of rest (DOR) between sessions.
If I was you I would do it every other day this week & build up to everyday (if that's how she has the plan laid out).
If you almost fell over & the pain hasn't gotten better...you need the rest.
Staci & Julie,
I'm not sure I'd call it strength training. There are really only 9 minutes of strength moves mixed in. I did take the day off and just did the treadmill... mostly because I was having a bad day and just didn't feel like making it worse ;)
P/F,
That is hilarious about your husband. Hmm... maybe I'll get Mr F to do it!
inkelywinkely,
I'm going to do it first thing tomorrow!
P.O.M,
good point... you see them puke plenty but never sore.
Marie,
"It looks like they probably have to ice-down each night to try to put off some of the soreness."
sharp eyes... I think I do remember seeing that once.
I didn't know you already had it! Ignore my earlier comment. I do WAY more stretching than the video gives you. I'm old.
Oh, and I practically put on shoes to go to the bathroom at night. 40 years of walking around barefoot has done my feet no favors, so I vote for shoes.
