But here is the good news. I'm feeling infinitely better than I did yesterday. We headed out to IKEA and came home with 3 new shelving units for the playroom.... that match our existing units that we had brought up from Mr F's old office set up

It's Gonna Be A Bright, Bright, Sunshiny Day
Any of my local readers will know how completely bogus that is. Winter in Michigan is miserable... and today is the worst kind of day. The sky is a dull dark grey... no sun... no way to discern if it is noon or dusk. There is no fresh snow and it is raining slush... seriously.... slush. It is disgusting out and we have about 5 more months to go. I'm not kidding... F-I-V-E.
But here is the good news. I'm feeling infinitely better than I did yesterday. We headed out to IKEA and came home with 3 new shelving units for the playroom.... that match our existing units that we had brought up from Mr F's old office set upperfectly pretty closely . So in a matter of hours we will actually have enough storage for all the new toys and books.... and get this.... we will even have enough room to put our winter hats and boots away too!

I love IKEA! I just ordered a media cabinet from Target online, and I am going to get a bookshelf from the local Target. That should help us immensely with our storage problems.
Sorry about the weather. I can't even imagine. You should be here. It is about 62 outside and sunny. One of those days that you try to remember in August when it is 100 degrees with 80% humidity!
Robin,
Once it is all put together I'll take some after shots... when I post the before & afters you will see that it looks like night out the windows. It is about as dark as during a really bad thunderstorm all the time. You need your headlights on to drive... dark. Michigan has one of the lowest amount of sunny days in the whole country (I forget the 2 darker states)... but it is true I would die in a Texas summer!
Ok- I *need* to go to IKEA for more book shelves. (Either that or get rid of some books) IKEA is where I got my last set of shelves, but unfortunately they immediately discontinued them afterwards. Damn them.
soapbox girl,
don't you just hate when that happens?!?
We were trying to match an exisiting set that we would love to just be able to add on to. It is much nicer than anything they have now with more configurations. We thought we had done a really good job with a new model they have... but... not quite. Fortunately they are not on the same wall!
So glad to hear you are feeling better! I did a little organizing here too...but our big Ikea trip will not happen until the basement gets turned into a playroom (a simple matter of hiring someone to mud the drywall and hang a ceiling; details). But I tell you this: reading your post made me feel like I can hardly wait for that lovely basement day to come!
And as for the weather...blech!!! Can you say cabin-fever? We actually played Twister (the whole family) and called it exercise today. What else are you going to do?
Mommytime,
oh basements... don't get me started! we had a finished basement until last year... and... umm... it still hasn't gotten "refinished"!
Mr F is actually back at IKEA right now getting another unit so our whole wall can be utilized. This is BIG time increasing our toy storage abilities... lets see if it keeps them off the floor (unlikely)!
As for the weather I believe it might be partly sunny tomorrow... today was the darkest day of all time!
Kid cracks me up. Love the faces she makes. haha.
IKEA is hell. It scares the crap out of me.
I heart storage and boxes to put things in and baskets and... well, anything to do with organization.
P.O.M,
"it scares the crap out of me."
thatcracks me up!
Deb,
I heart the boxes and baskets.... I just don't heart actually using them consistently
*whining* I miss IKEA, but I do live on the coast and it is something else. Its a juggling act, great availability of stores, museums and culture versus the beach and warm weather almost year round...its a toss up, but what I would give for a little snow!!!
I so need to get to IKEA! The last time we went, they didn't have any of the shelves we wanted in stock, so we left and haven't been back in months. But looking around at the disaster that is my house, I'm thinking another trip might be required.
Avery Grey,
get ready for the before and after shots... we did end up heading back to Ikea for a second trip to get another unit. Fortunately it is only 25 min from here.
How funny - I was at the Paramus Ikea yesterday for hours and hours pawing at all the organizational stuff. It seems an Ikea trip is a common "A New Year Is A'comin'" reaction.
Kiki,
where did you live before?
I miss a lot of things about NYC... but mostly I miss having a *walking* lifestyle. We thought we might be able to have that here... but there are no real services downtown so I still drive everywhere anyway :(
Haley,
interesting... I suppose it is. Next we should all go join a new gym!
Uggh...I SOOO don't miss those (long) Michigan winters. My parents just abandoned ship and headed for Florida for the next four months.
I'm glad you are feeling better!
Danielle,
that is one of the things I liked most about CA... so sunny. Where do your folks live in MI?
Yeah, well it's not so sunny in CA right now...
My parents live in Clarkston (out in the boonies). Right now, they are sticking their feet in the ocean and soaking up the 85 degree weather...bitches! :)
Danielle,
I grew up a little bit south of there in Rochester.
