Oh what a dear. Couldn't you just have Oprah say things and have Ruby's snappy rejoinders as the talent? How could Oprah pass that up? Ruby could always follow that up with the story of Perseus. It's fascinating.
I did force her to watch the Peter Walsh organization episode yesterday... where they aired the clip for the "Smartest Most Talented Kids" episode. Of course Kid thought they were *searching* for talent and doesn't quite get that A) playing on a plastic slide isn't technically a "talent" and B) that the show has already been taped. I'm not willing to break it to her on either front just yet ;)
Dana, I can't say I recommend it. There has definitely been an element of danger involved... but they're also getting a lot of exercise!
When I was young and the weather did not permit outside play and I am the oldest of four girls, my mom was uber cool with the indoor play....tents that filled the living room, labyrinths throughout the house, weird cooking experiments and make up application, sliding down the stairs in out pillowcases...I love that slide inside, I think its genius!
Kiki, Oh I remember sliding down the stairs in pillowcases and sleeping bags... even garbage bags I think. I think that was some thing particular to the era. I've never seen or heard of anyone doing that since then.
that's funny, mom always talks about how they would slide down the stairs on trays. Can you IMAGINE sliding down those stairs? You'd smash right into the wall.
I never did this sort of thing. I FELL down the stairs once and put my foot through the wall, maybe that cured me of wanting to take part in this particular pasttime.
Also.. sorry for so many long winded comments, I'm home sick and this is my entertainment!
aahhh...we slid down in empty laundry baskets! an.d as for the slide...we SO had the same one in our house since my oldest was born! this is our first year leaving it outside because, frankly, i think my crazy, daredevil baby would seriously hurt herself. we also had a little tykes playhouse inside for 2 years (same reason) but then dh refused to take it apart to bring it in anymore.
Marie, Oh I'm somewhat afraid Baby will hurt herself... I did walk into the living room this morning I find her little Red flyer bike on top... thankfully I got it down before she got on!!!

Yes, we actually have a Lil Tykes outdoor slide in the living room...
You say that like it's a bad thing.
Just think... if we hadn't dragged it in last night... Kid might not have found her talent!

I cannot tell you how funny I thought it was that she has (apparently) been thinking of what her Oprah talent should be!
Oh she does crack me up.
Why do you watch Oprah so much?!?!?!
(haha just kidding)
If I did this, Dawson would be so excited. But he'd probably crack his head open on the kitchen floor.
Looks like so much fun, though!
Jen,
LOL

Elizabeth,
"sorry for so many long winded comments, I'm home sick and this is my entertainment!"
No problem... I know what that's like ;)
And the trays?!! Mame did a lot of questionable things back in the day...
Okay, I love that you said era, because I am a bit older than you....but the fact that you did it too is comforting!!!
Elizabeth, I am always long winded, mostly because I wish it was like I was sitting there chatting with all of you!!!
Kiki,
What are you... 4 years older than I am?!! That's nothing! Definitely the same era.

marie-
actually my younger sister broke her toe sliding down the stairs in a laundry basket.
I was not a part of this caper as it took place in COLLEGE.
