This Week The Plan

Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
I finished and sent out my first batch of Compacting Christmas boxes. And they looked freaking fantastic folks! I mean seriously... I have a gift for this (If I do say so myself... "TOOT TOOT"). Photos and RECIPES will all be posted in the next couple of days. Mr F wanted me to keep what's in the boxes a surprise. But I think it would be more universally helpful to get some great gift ideas BEFORE it is too late to ship them out yourselves. Am I right? Okay then. Check back for those later.

Unfortunately this week has proven (yet again) that I cannot really do "it all". So in order to don my Martha cap (even her more zen one) I had to kind of let diet and exercise go. Fortunately I did add in drinking... so my health won't deteriorate. ;)

On to this week...

Monday - Layered Zucchini, Corn & Bean Enchiladas (exactly what it sounds like) w/ salad

Tuesday - Turkey Meat Spaghetti Sauce w/ pasta & California mix steamed veggies (1/2 lb meat sauteed w/ grated onion, carrot, 1/2 T sugar & half a jar of sauce... double it for 2 dinners worth)

Wednesday - Brown Sugar & Ginger Salmon, rice mix & broccoli

Thursday - Salmon Noodle Casserole (finally found an organic cream o' mush soup!)

Friday - Homemade pizza (crust recipe from Bittman's How To Cook Everything)

Saturday - Pork Tenderloin w/ green beans & mashed potatoes

Sunday - Egg Crepes w/ spinach & mushrooms & Tomato Soup (boxed)

As soon as I get through the holidays I will make more of an effort to post full recipes and calorie counts (w/ pictures!) and add them to my recipes section. If I list something new between now and then you can always ask for the recipe in the comments.

Errands & Chores:

Monday - ice sugar cookies & pack gift boxes

Tuesday - mail boxes, make Pepparkakor for Kid (her fav) to take to school, get haircut

Wednesday - playdates AM & PM, clean house

Thursday - look at used piano!!!, clean off desk (still have never accomplished this lofty task)

Friday - Make returns & restock for gift box supplies at Michael's

Sat & Sun - make xmas cookies etc for boxes

Diet & Exercise:
Doesn't look like it's happenin' this week either ;)

Kid's Lunches:

Hey Mrs. F, I have kind of a random question...how do you package iced sugar cookies so the frosting doesn't stick to the other cookies or the packaging? I'm starting the baking frenzy this week. I'm filled with dread and excitement all at the same time.

ooh, i'm so excited for you that everything is coming along nicely. sorry i've been MIA in the blogging world lately, last week kicked my ass, but i'm back in full force now. i totally forgot that you make pepparkakor too. we (and by we, i mean bert) have already made 3 batches this year. love them.

#1 I use royal icing and really let is harden before packing them up.
#2 I bought food tissue paper at Michael's (by Martha) and cut it into rectangles and put it between each cookie.

I'll post pics of it tomorrow (or tonight) with the price. But I only used 2 sheets of the tissue (have tons left) to do 4 bags o' cookies... so it's not too $$ and it is SUPER cute looking!

I can't wait to see your pics! :)

I love your plan.

What is royal icing? Can I buy it?

Hi Mrs F.

Just came over from Mr F's site.

Very sweet of you to let him get in on the Furious Cheer (I think you quadrupled his traffic!)

Just came by to say hi.

Any plans on getting back to Disney? Actually, compared to before we are practically neighbors now. We have always planned on checking out that area, maybe this time we'll come to you.

Oh yes it wouldn't be xmas without them!

It is basically egg white & powdered sugar. 2 whites & 1 pound of sugar. Beat together and thin with water to the right consistency. I think you can buy it premade by Wilton at Michael's or Joanne's.

Hey Rob!
Sadly WDW is out of our budget this year... but I'm hoping next fall. Please do come up!

Can you eat the frosting with raw egg whites?

Or maybe it is just for decorating and all I can think about is eating it.

Mrs Furious said...

well you can. But if you are making it for eating you can use meringue powder (dried egg whites) and reconstitute them and you are fine. You just need 2 eggs worth for the recipe. If you are doing a gingerbread house save your money and just use eggs.

Thank god you're drinking.

You are right on target for the season Mrs. F! So great that you have accomplished so much so quickly. What a way to motivate the masses.
I was wanting to offer up a suggestion for frosting without egg whites.

1C. powdered sugar
2tbs. milk
2tsp. corn syrup
1/4tsp almond extract

I use a lot more milk, adding along the way to get the consistency I want. Adding more corn syrup for the shine, will result in a much longer drying time for the cookies.
Also, I always quadruple the recipe so that I can make plenty of colors.
It stays super shiney and handles really well in the mail.

Just an idea!

Now, I'm off to bake!

We just bought a used piano...my son & I start lessons next month. I am so excited!

Mrs Furious said...

thanks for that! I'm going to try it on the cookies I send to Kid's class. The meringue powder always dries so hard it's brittle.

word to that ;)

That's my plan. Kid can get easily frustrated so I'm planning to get lessons in our home and have her warm up to the idea (or develop interest) while she watches me learn.
Hopefully it won't get sold before I go back to look!

Have you heard about this? Outrageous!
