The Vanishing

A couple of months ago I met a nice woman at the Mc Donald's playground. (stop judging me for my love of McDonalds!) Our kids were playing and we all hit it off. We had a few more play dates and she and I met up for a couple of night's out without our families. I really liked her.

Well... she has disappeared.

For real.

Vanished.

Gone.

Her email bounces back.

Her cell phone number has been cancelled.

Her house phone has been disconnected.

The last time I had heard from her was about 2 months ago. Sometimes she and her children travel with her husband on business so the first month seemed relatively normal. Than I noticed it had been awhile since we'd spoken... but hey we're all busy. Then after about two months had passed I tried contacting her and that is when I discovered something was up.

Of course, my first instinct was to think ...
"What have I done to offend her so much she had to change all her numbers and her email?!" (WHAT?!! I told you I'm naturally guilt ridden.) Then when I dismissed that as a bit over the top I started to really worry about her.

What happened? They weren't planning to move and her husband works for himself FROM HERE. She told me many times that they were here permanently. They own their home so it's not like their lease was up and they had to move. Plus none of that would effect your email anyway. I suppose they could have just changed email/phone carriers but wouldn't you send out a mass update? And that wouldn't disconnect your home line... even with a new carrier you'd keep your number.

I Googled them to see if maybe they had had a bad accident. I don't know what else to think.

Witness protection program?!

So what would you do if you were me? Stalk them relentlessly?

I drove by her house to see if it was for sale... it wasn't. But that doesn't prove anything. Her car wasn't there but of course they doesn't prove anything either.

I think I have a job for The Brown Sugar Detective Agency... It might be time for Sugar Mahoney and I to reunite and solve this case.

I think that's totally strange - what if something happened to them? I would drive by the house a few times (maybe at night?) to confirm that their car is gone, or hell, go up and knock on the door. I hope everything is okay!

Isn't it crazy? I drove by two times... each time there was a different truck in the driveway. It doesn't look vacant (soaps and lotions along the kitchen sink window) but it doesn't look exactly lived in either.
I know what church they go to and I have actually thought of going on Sunday just to see if they are there (is that CRAZY or what... but... I really want to know what happened and I figured people there might know if they aren't there themselves.) And you are right, I'm going to drive by at night... cars should be there and if people live there lights should be on.

this is totally intriguing to me.

i am totally on the idea of witness protection program. i would continue to drive by house to see any people. i would not go to house and knock on door. for fear of danger, wierdos, and in general rude and leave people be. but i would hunt them down without them knowing. googling was smart, i would keep that up. oh this is exciting a little blogger mystery ?? maybe deserving of it's own blog ??? where did they go ???

That's insane...and I'd totally do exactly what you're doing. :) I have read far too many J.A. Jance books to do otherwise. Plus, if aliens are abducting people, you really need to be informed. ;)

Feener,
It is fascinating. Of course I hope they really are okay... but my mind has gone ALL over the place here. Her husband has some health issues that throw a wrinkle in and there is some other stuff going on. I have a feeling something went down and it isn't going to be *good* news.
Now at the same time I guess they could just be busy ;)

Jess,
LOL. Yes indeed if aliens are involved we NEED to know!

Jess is the best!!!! I'm still laughing!!!

We are not going to let you rest until we have some answers!!!!!

Was it a work email address or a home email??

Mrs Furious said...

Claire,
When I can verify that they are not at their house anymore than I will feel more comfortable sharing some of my other concerns/theories. I don't want to have her pipe up and totally embarrass myself... (just yet anyway)

Amy,
Home email. She doesn't work except for her husband's business but she didn't have a company email.

Now to fully admit how much research I've done I did find out the name of his company and his work email. I am afraid to email him though... just don't want to harass him if it's unwanted.

I would knock on the door and just act normal...and be like, "hey, I tried to call and email but it didn't work...is everything okay?"

see where it goes.. she might have done like I did when I changed carriers once. I called or emailed people individually..the people that I hadn't been close with at that point for a little bit, I COMPLETELY forgot about...until later on...

Maybe that is all it is?

Sounds like something that could end up on Unsolved Mysteries ..

I've been reading the Abram's Daughters series. Oh my! So glad you said to check out more than just one from the library. I finished The Covenant and rolled right over to pick up The Betrayal. I didn't let myself finish it last night because I did't have the next one. Today I got The Sacrifice and The Prodigal. Crack is right!

I haven't been able to get my hands on The Shunning yet .. is that the very first book? Is that the story of Lizzie?

Kids are playing video games, gotta go read!

Lauren,
Oh I'm so glad you are enjoying them.
" I didn't let myself finish it last night because I didn't have the next one."
LOL...That is exactly what I do!

The Shunning is the first book she wrote but that is a completely different series set in the like the 80s or early 90s... there is much more "english" stuff going on and somewhat cheesier than the Abrams series. But it is still riveting. I also liked Annie's People and the Nellie Fisher series.

Could you send her a note to her home??? Like through the mail?? If I lived near you I'd hang out with you. All. The. Time!

I would have been the same way at first--thinking I had done something to offend her and she was blowing me off. Ah, good old Catholic guilt in my case.

This is totally bizarre. I am a total sleuth when it comes to stuff like this (or not even that exciting stuff...like googling all sorts of people.) Keep us up to date on what you find out. I hope they are okay.

OOO can't wait for updates on this one .... I am a total "sleuth" when it comes to random things, if this were me I would be ALL over it! LOL

julie,
I am going to try and do some more investigating on Tuesday... just in case they are out of town for the holiday. I'll let everyone know.

BSOnlyToots,
I am so glad people don't think I'm a weirdo! I NEED to know what happened!

004,
I just might need backup. ;)

soooo... it's tuesday. any word? totally intrigued.

Mrs Furious said...

Gooddog,
I'm on it! As soon as the kids are in bed... it's drive by time!

Mrs Furious said...

Okay I'm back.
Tuesday night 8:30 and her car is not there. The same 2 pickups I've seen are... I don't know if one is her husband's I don't know what he drives. But they could be renting out the house & his office or he could be there in one and renting out the other. Or he could be gone with them. Hmm... I might have to dig deeper. wth?!

gooddog said...

that is crazy nuts to me.
who drops off the face of the earth like that unless there's a story. maybe she cought her husband cheating and took the kids to her mom's for a while? (See.... I can make ANYTHING up). In fact, maybe we should all post our own ideas!

gooddog said...

PS- I CAN spell... caught

Mrs Furious said...

Gooddog,
I don't know what more I can do. I'm going to ask Mr F to call the husbands office (that way it's not traced back to me) and see if that is disconnected too. If so then I think I have lost the trail.
I am going to go to their kids' preschool at pickup time tomorrow and see if they come (talk about stalking) but that is the only idea I have left.

SoonToBeMrsZ said...

anymore updates on their whereabouts?!

Mrs Furious said...

BsOnlyToots,
I made Mr F drive us all by there last night... she is definitely not there... but someone is. Whether it is a renter or her husband I do not know. For fear that it may be the later I don't want to knock.
