Rest In Peace

We are both grief stricken and shocked to report that today at 12:30 PM our dog passed away of sudden heart failure. This was unexpected and we are having a hard time processing such devastating news.

thank you ladies,
I am devastated. I really can't believe it. I have had him my entire *real* adulthood. Gone from single to married to kids... he has always been present. Even when he was making us crazy he was THERE. And now with absolutely no warning he's not. And I feel tremendous guilt that he spent the last fews days of his life at a kennel and not with us. He died 3 hours after we picked him up today. So Kid didn't even get to see him.

oh my gosh! I'm so sorry for all of you!

Here is a little poem someone sent me when my dog died, it's very sweet:

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

So sorry.

I'm so sorry about your dog. That's all I really have. I am SO sorry that you lost your dog. We lost our dog Hudson 3 yrs ago and remember that it felt much worse than we could have ever imagined. Take care Mrs. F.

Oh, I'm so sorry Putty's gone.

But he'll be waiting for you on the Other Side I'm sure of it.

I once spent a very nice afternoon Up North, reading on the couch under the Moose Head with Putty draped over my lap. He was a sweet guy.

It sounds like a quick exit, which is better for him, but harder for you guys. Flappy was like that: happy at 5pm, but mom and dad had to take him to be put down in the middle of the night. So: no mental preperation, but some comfort knowing he didn't suffer?

Anyway ::hugs::

Losing pets is, I think, harder than we think it will be. Calliope drives me nuts most of the time, but when she dies it's going to be tough.

Hope Kid deals with things okay.

Oh my God, Mrs F. I am so sorry.

I felt similarly about one of my cats (jokingly wishing she'd go away), but when she died in June, I was devastated. It was so emotional. I would be sobbing and then laughing my ass off because well, it's just how I deal, you know...plus I don't want to offend anyone, but she was a cat and a standoffish one at that. She was no Putty. I find the humor in everything. She died the same day that Michael Jackson did so we told the kids she was playing with Michael in Heaven.

Maybe Putty is up there in heaven right now setting William Safire straight;) And getting jiggy with Michael. Ew. Sorry.

You all are in my thoughts.

Oh, Mrs. F, no no no no no no. I am so sad. I loved that little dog even when he tried to eat my face off a week before my wedding. And when I almost killed him by shutting him into the attic. And when he pooped on my floor when you were gone. And when Nate freaked out seeing him, but had to get close. He still sometimes asks about where Putty is. And I know exactly how you feel about the suddeness...Kirby died the day after we got him back from my mom after our trip. It is just a horrible, horrible feeling. And even when they drive you nuts, you can't imagine life without them.

To do this day, I remember the look on Ruby's face when she said good bye to Kirby and I can just imagine how she is feeling know and how she is reacting now. And my heart totally goes out to you. I am just so sorry. You know my heart is hurting for you guys and for the loss of putty. i loved that little dog.

hugs to you. lots and lots of them.

I'm so sorry - we lost both of our dogs (separately) within a month of each other (June/July) and I swear, I'm still reeling from their absence. It's so hard - but I'm sure it's so much harder for you with the kids - take care of them and yourself and don't forget to read them Rainbow Bridge. I still read it and it gives me immense comfort.
