One More Reason The CIA Should Recruit Me

Kid has made a lot of headway in the reading and writing departments this year. But there are still times when her spelling is so creative that I look at it completely baffled. Usually I can crack the code. She has her letter sounds down pat so it's really just a matter of letting go of your preconceived notions of how things ought to be spelled and sounding out what is on the paper. 85% of the time I can get it. That leaves 15% of the time when I just stare at it and think "WTF?". Even when I have some context clues the intended words just elude me. Like with this drawing from yesterday (sorry it is sideways... added challenge):

Try as I might I just could not figure it out.
And it was killing me!
Then I finally got it.
And I'm telling you that when the puzzle comes together it's akin to solving The New York Times Crossword Puzzle (Sunday). You feel like you should be cracking codes for the CIA. It's a total rush.
And, yes, I'm completely serious.

Have at it, peeps.
Once you get it you'll be like... "d'Oh! It was so obvious!"

Good work code crackers!
I'm totally making it a weekend feature... I have plenty of material piled up.

2 showings today... fingers crossed!!

I figured it out before I read the post OR her writing. I wonder if I can put that as a skill on my resume... Hope you have nice weather and the showings go well. Pretty soon you'll be saying "We're not in Ashville anymore..."

Loralei,
Seriously? Wow. I had a significant clue and I still couldn't get it. I knew exactly what the picture was and still couldn't step back and read what it said. Good work. Yes, put "translator" on your resume.

Got it! And love it.
Yay on 2 showings! Figners crossed for you guys.

Got it, but I also have 17 years of translation experience. :) That's definitely creative!

Love it! You're right...I feel so smart now! I was a horrible speller as a kid and now I am a fantastic speller...all those times my mom told me to look it up must have paid off. At some point it will click with Kid too.

She has very nice handwriting!

So...could Saturdays be "praise" days, as a follow-up to bitch-fest Friday? ;) We get to keep our dogs! (With a non-refundable pet deposit, but it's worth it!)

I am SO happy! :)

SK,
Yay!

Man she is creative!! You should make this a weekly riddle, like brain teasers!!

I've had a little bit of experience with this translation stuff...but man, I can't get it. Even stood my laptop up so I could look at it straight on. :P

So, when will you decode for the slow folks? (or looks like just ME). LOL!

Kid does have some VERY neat handwriting, BTW!

Oh I'm glad people are enjoying this!:)

Staci,
I'll reveal the answer here in the comments on Monday.

This year she shot to the top of her class in handwriting. There are times when she is being particularly meticulous with her printing that I can't tell if an adult wrote it or not. But, then again, I don't have very sophisticated handwriting.

Well, I made my EXTREMELY small budget yesterday... by the skin of my teeth (why is that even a saying? It makes no sense).
I escaped with only paying 31.98 for EVERYTHING we need for the week- plus some extras.
I couponed a price checked so many things that I felt like I was having a heart attack when I realized that my 40 cent potato coupon didn't double...seriously. I was using a calculator at the self check out. How big of an idiot did I look like, you may ask?
Big enough that a ninety year old woman sat at the starbucks table behind me in Kroger and just watched, laughing all the while.

girl, you obviously have not had enough practice reading lyrics to songs you have known for ten years written in kid language..it really sharpens those skills. LOL

Well I'm feeling really stupid now, because I haven't got a clue!

Is it something American that I wouldn't understand?

Mrs Furious said...

Moley,
Yes it is technically American but you've absolutely heard of it.
I'll reveal it tomorrow.
I'm actually happy someone can't figure it out... makes me feel better.

moley said...

Mr Mole has put me out of my misery!

My problem was I thought it was one word. I should have known really cos Hetty doesn't do spaces either!

CM said...

Come on! I knew it immediately, without even reading the words. But then I already have a...you know. (and I'll say hi to the Mr. tonite or tomorrow.)

Mrs Furious said...

moley,
that is exactly what happened to me... I kept trying to read it as one word not three.

Jaime said...

ooooooh....I finally got it after your comment about how many words it is. You tell kid she has just earned herself a post a week for entertainment purposes. :)

I've never even seen it, but the photo was my giveaway. That is AWESOME!

This is a fun little right-brained puzzle. I can't wait to see next week's.
