Believe It!

So when I woke up this morning this little number was waiting for me...

After a little digestion it seems I didn't gain ANY weight after all. Interestingly Mr F didn't gain any weight on our trip either.

So here is the take away from this... get a pedometer before your next vacation! Obviously it helped that Disney World allows for a pretty active vacation... but with a pedometer anyone can do this. Before we left I wore the pedometer around on my average day and then added in how far I walk during my workouts. For me this equaled 6.5 miles on my typical "workout" day. So I knew that in order to keep my weight in check, when I was most likely eating above my typical calorie limits, I would need to average at least 6.5 miles a day. Well it worked. Now if you are staying at a resort with an exercise facility you maybe able to keep your workouts going.. but if you are traveling about this was a super easy and effective way of staying aware and accountable for my activity. This is especially important when you know you won't have as much control (or want to) of your food. Keep in mind that you need to account for both your typical daily activity on top of your workout activity levels!

I LOVE the pedometer...Glad you liked it too. Tell everyone the brand, because it is super cheap and researchers who study exercise and weight loss recommend it (i can't remember the name).

It's good even if you aren't on vacation. I think to lose weight you want at least 15000 steps. watching the numbers keeps you moving...motivates you to park farther from the mall, take the stairs, etc.

So yea, I am a big fan of the pedometer.

That is great for you. On a completely different subject, there is nothing like a few hours of kid vomit to throw me totally off. I am on my 5th load of laundry (i had other laundry to do, too...it wasn't like he vomited in our dressers.) But washing big ass comforters, 8 large towels, sheets, mattress pads...my room, his room, the bathroom...not fun. So my older kid had to stay home, too, since I could not bring little one out of the house. Funny how I kind of like my little one a little more when he is sick...he was so mellow and angelic (well, in between vomitrama). He is feeling better now and I am cleaning and waiting for either me or my older son to get it (my husband never gets the stomach bugs.) And then there will be even more frick'n laundry to do and beds to make. So of course I ate like 8 Hershey chocolate bells and surely will go back for more...
Thank you all for listening to my rant.

lol.. although surely it has been known to happen..

sucky suck. vomit not fun. And I'm with you. Mr F rarely gets the stomach viruses.. but he'll be in the bathroom acting like he is going to get .. or every little symptom he has is the onset of the stomach virus.. in-fur-i-ating!

Eat as much chocolate bells as you want... you'll probably just puke 'em up anyway! ;)

Angie,
Your pedometer is the OMRON "walking style"

I love that it has a little clock on it... no need for a watch!

I LOVE my omron pedometer-- I wear it all the time and use it as my pocket watch.

Mrs Furious said...

Hey Haley,
Out of curiosity how far do you generally walk in a day?

HC said...

It really varies. On days that I get into NYC, I walk anywhere between 12,000 and 18,000. Ridiculous. On days that I work at either of my library jobs, I'm lucky to get to 4,000 in an entire day -- and that's even with a bit of jogging in place in the stacks. Nothing cements your status as the kooky librarian quite like getting caught doing squats in the Poetry section.

That's a cool looking pedometer! I need to look into that.

Oh and good job on the maintenance!

Hmmm, I wonder how many steps it would take to balance out the ginormous amounts of food I'll be eating on our upcoming cruise?

The last time I got down to a really good number - 175 (I'm 205 now), I went on a 7-night cruise and gained 8 pounds!

Hey they've got gyms on those cruises! ;)

it's so simple haha. money calories burned than consumed = weight loss/maintenance. so why does it take us so long to figure it out?

Good for you!

Julie...the vomitrama has hit my house too. Poor DD; this is her (and our) first time dealing with this. I think I've changed more of my clothes than hers.

eurydice,

$ on the brain?! heehee
yeah.. for me it was just pure straight up laziness that kept me from reaching this point before!

Amy
sorry to hear it :(
I hope both you and Julie don't catch it yourselves!

i found your blog last night and read nearly the entire thing. i love it! you have motivated me for sure! you're at the same weight that I should be at since i'm only an inch shorter than you. but 3 years after having my only child, i'm still wondering where in the hell my body went. i've got 25 lbs. to get there but my hips seem to like this size, go figure.

Mrs Furious said...

amy,
lol... even at 111 I'm still wondering that!
You can do it. I didn't ever really work that hard after Kid.. and now I really regret all those years I wasted feeling less than. I really don't know what I was thinking. 25 lbs no problem. I weighed 135 the begining of June. I have no idea what you know or would like to know or don't need to know! But I loved Calorie Count Plus.. I found using their weight log and getting a little graph of my weight loss motivating for some reason...
Anyway... good luck... let me know how it goes!

When I was a kid, our dog vomited in my packed suitcase before a family trip.

And I'm with you. Mr F rarely gets the stomach viruses.. but he'll be in the bathroom acting like he is going to get .. or every little symptom he has is the onset of the stomach virus.. in-fur-i-ating!

[rolls eyes] Yeah, when I'm not wiping my ass on the towels, I like to pass the time pretending to vomit.
