Nooo!! Ugh. I wondered if that's why Mr. F's car was in the driveway. I am over here on pins and needles myself. Keep us updated!!! And good luck Mr. F you deserve the best.

That is so wrong! First they invite Mr. F for a "sleepover", then don't call for ages, and when they do they insult him!

(hmmm...sorta sounds like a bad dating scenario....)

Good luck getting what you want!!!

Tricky bastards.

He's calling them right now with the "it's just not enough" speech...

They want him so we'll see what happens.

Marie,
LOL... totally like a bad dating scenario!!!

Crossing my toes (cuz I have to type).

Good Luck!

Stand firm Mr F! Don't let them nickel and dime you -- remember that for a big company $5-10K is absolutely nothing. GO MR F!!! (waving my pom poms)

Hang in there Mrs. F!

good luck!!!!!

If they didn't use a headhunter to find him, that's another 25% on his first year's salary. I say go for a signing bonus AND more salary.

Mr Furious said...

Deb, will you be my agent?

I KNEW I shouldn't put out on the first date!

anxiously awaiting the news. don't forget what you're worth Mr. F, and make sure you get it. Will they include your moving expenses?

Deb said...

Happily. I love salary negotiations. It's my favorite part of getting a new job.

Just catching up here. What is with the fast food mama???

Good luck Mr. F. Hang tough (like the Backstreet Boys say).

Robin said...

That sucks! I hope it all works out.

Mrs Furious said...

Okay we're still waiting.
Mr F got them up already and he'll give his final word tomorrow.

Vomit.

P.O.M.,
that was Mr F with the Arby's pig down ;)

Just watched the video.

1) can. not. wait. to see the hair. I bet it will be adorable. I am getting mine cut Thursday too. But not all Rosemary's Baby. That's not a good look for me. (I'm not tiny.)

2) Re: the 7 year old boxes. Get rid of them. If you haven't missed it in 7 years, it can't be that important, right?

3) I've never moved long distance, but I know how expensive it is to move across town. Is your furniture important to you? Could you just pack up some clothes and your china, kitchen stuff, move it in a UHaul, sell the furniture with your house, and start over? That sounds like tons of fun to me, but I'm crazy like that.

Mrs Furious said...

Robin,
sadly our furniture is important... lots of antiques and much of it family related...

But we are not moving the basement furniture.

You need to negotiatie in your moving expenses. Most companies will pick that up - and even if they don't, anything job-related (Mr. F's flights, hotel expenses and moving) is tax deductible. I know that doesn't help with the immediate expense...but maybe it will cheer you up next year?

Good luck.

Mrs Furious said...

tuwabvb,
Thanks.
I had just called Mr F and said to get them to double the moving expenses if they won't raise the salary anymore. Let's hope it works!! Coming up with 10K for the move would be a killer.

Okay, 10K is a lot of money for a move, even packed. Mrs. F, I would use your own boxes and pack it all yourself. I have packed myself for two cross-country moves and frankly--it is a ton of work but doing a good job is not rocket science. Buy packing paper at the U-haul center and start collecting boxes now. You can get great boxes free from liquor stores, etc. If you have Craig's List, ask around for boxes. Packing china is NOT difficult--I have beautiful china, I've packed it myself and have never broken a piece. Seriously--you can do this.

As for the furniture, it will be hard to pare down until you know where you will be living and what you will need...but I'd try to err on the side of getting rid of more. You are moving to NC, which is the home of awesome, reasonably priced furniture. Also, you guys seem to like arts and crafts style stuff (judging from the bungalow style of your house), and Asheville has a number of festivals, sales, etc. at the Grove Park Inn of gorgeous arts & crafts stuff. What I'm trying to say is, anything you leave will not be hard to replace, where you are going.

Hicktown Diva,
We are getting hit by both fuel charges and the higher summer rates.
We paid 5K 7 years ago to move here (same distance) but gas was 1/gallon then... and we had less stuff.

Yes Arts & Crafts.
Okay I'm going to try and gear up for paring down...

Julie said...

Oh shit, that's right. The gas prices are insane.

You'll be getting plenty of exercise from packing and moving shit. You need the treadmill for the stress release though.

"sadly our furniture is important... lots of antiques and much of it family related... "

Based on your pics and videos, I was afraid of that. Oh, well.

I hate moving especially such long distance weve been there done that and Ill keep my happy self in Texas. that one move we did make we lived about an hour from Asheville my in laws still live near there its a great area.

Brenda said...

One of my friends just moved from CT to Texas, and she had $15000 for the move, so maybe you're getting a bargain? Her new employer wouldn't pick up the move, plus they haven't sold their house yet, so now they have two mortgages. So, it could be worse! You will be fine, although I know it is overwhelming. I'd definitely dump anything you haven't used in 7 years. That might be a good way to feel like you've really accomplished something, which might make you feel better too. Hang in there.

Oh man, I feel ya! I am moving on Sunday, and only had less than 3 weeks to prepare. Luckily it is only a 2 bedroom apartment though, on top of my friends 1 bedroom apartment.

Gas for the trip is around $900 just for the moving truck, not including my car that is also traveling. Geesh.

I am sure you can do it though, once you get started everything seems to come together. Get a babysitter and you should be good to go ;-) If you can do what you do now, you can do anything!

Good luck with the salary negotiations!!

I wrote you out a long post and my grandson came in and deleted it!! So the short version is... try pods.com. they are mid priced. they do full service down to drop it in the yard and leave. they will pick it back up and deliver it or store it on the other end as needed. for a 2500 sq ft 4 bedroom house Wa state to Florida was 4700. If you got a pod now you could start loading in your boxes you want to keep and sort through easier. I have moved more times then I can count. My hubby was in the military for over 20 years. I can give you loads of hints if you would like.

You're on the right track with moving costs. I've seen the bills from our last corporate moves, and they were unbelievable. Get them to reimburse expenses (including incidentals like meals, personal car mileage for househunting, etc.) NOT cut you a $10k check, which you would have to pay taxes on. You'll have to front the money yourself, but it will save you money in the long run, and they can write it off. I assume they're giving you a trip or two for househunting, too? If not, you definitely want that covered, with the price of airline tickets. Tell Mr. F he can just conference me in. ;)

Mrs Furious said...

Cara,
Good Luck on your move! :)

dasnowz,
Thanks for the comment. PODS might work for us... especially if we have to store our stuff in between. Plus as you point out I could be loading it as I go.

Deb,
I have no idea what is going down with the house hunting. Originally they said they'd fly me down... Mr F has to get on that. He's giving him his offer today.
Reimbursement.... I'll tell him!!
