A Sign Of The Times

"Why is there so much rice and not very much meat?" Kid asks at dinner.

Tell her your toying with becoming a sometimes vegetarian. Amazing what kids will observe, huh?

Have you ever looked into Angel Food Ministries? Not sure if they have it in your area, but might be worth a look. No income limits or qualifying.

Well, I was going to comment on your other post today but my question has been answered - apparently she is feeling fine! LOL!

Tell her it's better than mayo or butter sandwiches. And walking in the snow uphill to school both ways. :)

LOL..I like the toying w/ vegetarian idea! We've been doing "exotic" meals..a little chinese/thai/indian..mostly rice/veggies w/ a little meat, and they don't know the difference because they think thats just how the meal is because they've never had it before!

Also, we've been learning about ratio's. Kinda like portion sizes, but without the emphasis on "only eat 2 oz of meat!!". More of the "in a balanced meal, to get everything your body needs, you should have half a plate of veggies, a quarter meat, etc.."

Or...you could say its so that there's more room for dessert!!

That is one observant kiddo.

I've been toying with the idea of doing away with meat for good, although my morningstar habit wouldn't make it all that economical...

Amy,
Kid is the most carnivorous child in the world... she'd eat meat with a side of meat. If I said we were toying with vegetarianism she'd probably run away ;)

TUWABVB,
Yes she's doing fine.

"And walking in the snow uphill to school both ways. "
LOL... my stepdad was big on that one. Although he always said "with one boot"

Marie,
Oh yeah I'm all about the 2 oz protein portion now too. It's enough.... and it is SO much cheaper. That's half what I was buying.

Haley,
Hmm I never got into the fake meat stuff even when I was a vegetarian. Although I have a feeling they are much improved since then.
