Things You Should Know Before You Start A 2800 Mile Summer Driving Trip

When you ask your kids if they have to go potty they will invariably say "No".

but...

That doesn't mean they won't poop in their pants 5 minutes after you pass the Rest Area.

It's amazing that they can go from, "I definitely don't have to--there's no way I can" to 5 minutes later, "Oh, my gosh, I got to go NOW." I just put my foot down and make them walk to the bathroom and give it a good try. They reduces the frustration level, at least for me:)

...3-y-o son thinks public restrooms are too icky. Took him to Mill Pond Park on Friday and was frustrated that he wouldn't pee in the bathroom. Told him that if he didn't go, we wouldn't play at the park. He didn't go, and I caved. That's why we all call him 'the boss.'

Poop in the car would make me cry. Not much longer now, Mrs. F.

Well we've had an unfortunate 2 day stretch of "accidents" (unheard of) so I'm thinking she must have gotten a bug. She even had another accident this evening.

My daughter is 3 and we're still "potty training". It SCARES me to put her in the car with big girl panties ~ I can't even imagine poop in the car. Heaven help ya!

I love your fact about singing your sentences that rocks!! Do you twitter?

If its on your way as you trek south....swing through Nappanee, Indiana...plenty of Amish treats there...just follow the signs or google it. I LOVE that place! I buy up loads of homemade goodies and bring them home and freeze them for later use. p.s. I also am fascinated by the Amish. There are some in Northern Mich...but it must be a very small settlement because I never could find them. I live in SE Mich.

I could not have to go at a rest station, but let me see a sign that there isn't another rest stop for 500 hundred miles and I will surely have to go....begging Ken to find someplace, anywhere for me to go!!!

Sorry to hear the trip is rocky, hang in you're almost home and I can't wait for you to be back!!!

Always. ALWAYS!!!! I can't tell you how many times we have to pull onto the shoulder of the highway so one of the girls can "water the grass". Sometimes its even AFTER we've stopped just 15 min ago....

That definitely deserves "Welcome Home" drinks...very strong "Welcome Home" drinks....

This is the fear that keeps me from long trips with my four year old!
p.s. I've really enjoyed reading your blog about your trip. I give you huge props for making this drive by yourself. you are a saint among mothers.

Jackie Lee,
No I don't Twitter.

Jennifer,
Hardly a saint.

Golden to Silver Val,
Thanks for the Amish recommendation... I will stop through there next time we head up to MI. I was hoping we'd see some up at my mother's place but I didn't see them. I was very disappointed. I kept thinking that if I could just see a far of buggy it would help keep me going on the long trip!
