O Tannenbaum

We got our tree last night at an impromptu lot set up next to a gas station. What it was lacking in atmosphere it made up for in perfection. This tree is over 9 feet tall. Check out it's majesty.

We typically have gotten our trees at big box home improvement stores. We paid a little bit more for this one... but Mr F didn't have to lick a finger. They hoisted it up on the car and off we went. Plus when shopping in the garden department you miss out on some of the atmosphere of being 12 feet off of a major 4 lane road. Because nothing says "holidays" like losing sight of your nearly 2 year old in a maze of trees and panic strickenly screaming "WHERE IS SHE!!!!!" as you and your spouse set off like crazed lunatics running through the trees praying you catch her before a speeding car does. Yeah that was magical. You should have been there. It put a serious dampener on the whole event and we pretty much picked the next tree we saw and got the hell out of there.

Having said that we would go there again next year. I mean our tree is beautiful. And it was cut the day we bought it... which means it will still be alive past Christmas... and that is worth a few bucks more.

When we got home and were setting it up something truly magical happened.

A bunch of bona fide carolers knocked on our door. Believe it. Sometimes (if you look past the graffiti and occasional loose pitbull) our neighborhood can have a real small town vibe to it. Last night was one of those nights. The night last week when the cop car drove by each house very slowly was not.

Your tree is beautiful!!! And I'm jealous that you had carolers-what fun and what a great picture Mr. F got of the three of you enjoying it.

There's obviously something going on in West Asheville...I've noticed A LOT of police on bikes in our neighborhood over the past two days...what gives?!?! I guess I should be happy that they are patroling but it makes me a little nervous that there's something going down that I'm not aware of....

Damn Blogger error deleted my comment.

Ok anyhoo: gorgeous tree! I can't imagine how terrifying it was to lose Baby amongst the trees and so close to a major road. Gah!

Hey we're coming to Charlotte (the town, not the Baby) in March to scope it out. How far is that from ya?

What a beautiful tree!

Renee,
interesting. It definitely seemed like the cops were looking for something...

Heather,
You lucky dog... they've got Trader Joe's and Whole Foods there!
It's 2-3 hours from here.

Preppy Mama,
Thanks :)

Frasier Firs are my favorite, too. Love your tree!

I love that you had carolers. I remember when I was growing up we would get carolers (and I think we even we do it sometimes, too...it may have been once and I have imagined it as always).

You must have really high ceilings...9 foot tall tree! Awesome...I love me some high ceilings.

I don't think Charlotte's that far away.

MapQuest says 128 miles, 2 hrs 12 minutes. I suppose where you are going to be in the Charlotte area could add or remove 20-30 minutes.

Beautiful tree! And such a cute picture of you and Kid.

My family marched out into the woods today and slaughtered a beaut for my grandma. Ginormous.

Adam got to experience my family's tree craziness for the first time, including my father repeatedly hollering "Just cut the damned thing down! Cut that sucker down!" at my uncle wielding the chainsaw in the middle of a bog, while the rest of us tried to stay upright while laughing our asses off. Good times.

Can't wait for my something something (I love something something's). :)

Mrs F, that tree is beautiful. It makes me want a real one. Except, I have no patience for vacuuming pine needles off the floor every day....

And we never get carolers....I want some of those, too!

Dana,
If your husband leaves the vacuum in the living room it makes it so much easier to vacuum those up ;)

Julie,
I don't think I ever caroled. Of course now Kid thinks it's normal and that we are going to do it. Um... probably not ;)

Haley,
A bog?!! I'm not sure I've ever actually been in a bog. Or seen one...

I started to leave a comment and got booted off my wireless internet....ugh!

Suffice it to say...your tree is lovely, the carolers are awesome and the picture Mr.F took is wonderful.

Glad Baby F is safe and sound..."all is calm, all is bright.."

If anyone's curious, I have lots of pics of the kids on my flickr page...among others...

Whole Foods? Really? I didn't see it on the website.

We're considering moving there. Pete is NOT excited. I keep trying to tell him he could work for Nascar. He continually rolls his eyes. I even found a Scandinavian club there. So we're gonna tack on a trip there to my biz trip to Hot-lanta.

Thanks Mr. F for the link to the Flickr page -- I see you have the photo eye like Mr. HLH. :)

I'm jealous of the price of your tree! Our are shipped down here, so the price is much higher for that type and size...

I want to go caroling! My dream is to combine a hayride in with caroling, LOL! :)

you might want to consider a kid leash for Baby.

It'd be funny for sure, and maybe less stressful for you?

Although I will admit I've always found the idea to be... odd

Quite a glorious tree!

Caroling??? Honestly, I think it's kinda weird. My "perfect" step mom made us go one year. My sister and I were totally freaked out. We actually left early.

(Thank God for sisters and wine to get ya thru the holidays.)

By the way, I'm sooooo dying to blog about my churchy situation last week. But I'm afraid it will offend some of my bible thumping friends. I might do it anyway...

P.O.M.,
do it. I have found they usually enjoy it... go figure.

I love that photo!

We had carolers last year in St. Paul. They scared the bejeezus out of me when they rang the doorbell and I saw them on my front porch. Can you tell I've grown up in big cities all my life, and the only reasons 10 people show up on your stoop are not good ones?

First, you rock with the Christmas boxes. Second, carolers? People still do that? Don't get me wrong I think it is awesome, but thank goodness they don't weather the MI cold because Sam would get so embarrassed. He has a problem with people singing to him...actually so do I. Anyway, where is the giant hole in your tree? Sam keeps telling me they are all that way...
Merry Christmas! We miss seeing you and your holiday goodies! =)

Splaneyo,
Isn't that funny... I think it must be a relatively universal trait to get embarrassed when being sung too. I didn't really know what to do so I sang along. Thankfully I had the kids so that seemed reasonable and not crazy ;)
This has to be the most perfect tree we've ever had. We almost didn't decorate it. We should have heeded that instinct since now it has ornaments crammed in on a one foot wide section (only)!
Thanks for the compliments... coming from you that's a big deal!
