The Big One

After a short hypothesis that Canine should get married and have puppies because he came back from his new groomer looking like a "girl poodle"...

Kid went on to ask this terrifying question:

"Mom why do you have to be married to have kids?"

Ever truthful and concise (as is my parenting style) I responded "You don't" hoping that that surprising revelation would keep her from asking the REALLY BIG QUESTION.

"You don't have to be married to have kids... lets see... who do we know that has kids but isn't married?" I continued.

Surprisingly we don't really know anyone so that didn't pan out quite like I would have liked.

"Helena" Kid offered.

Helena is 5... "no Helena doesn't have kids... and her mom is married... remember her dad is David?" I remind her.

"Well maybe that's her stepdad." Kid offered... slightly more worldly since starting Kindergarten.

"No that's her regular dad. Well, either way, you don't have to be married but only mom's can grow babies in their tummies... men tummies can't grow a baby, they are made differently" I clarify hoping that she doesn't ask me how they got in there in the first place.

"Well... except God. He made the first people remember? Adam & Eve? He made them out of dirt." Kid interrupts.

"Oh... yeah... except for God."

Mr F... I Honor You

Mr F really "stepped to plate" (as Sandra Bullock once said) this morning.

It's not often that I take the time to acknowledge when Mr F isn't wronging me... well this morning, Mr F, you did good.

Well Well Well... What Do You Know?

While making my blog rounds I saw that Kiki had recently taken an online personality test. Ever since having Tickle confirm/reaffirm my genius level IQ I've been a bit fond of taking these highly accurate online tests.... so I couldn't resist this little personality number and quickly followed Kiki's lead.

BEHOLD THE HIGHLY ACCURATE RESULTS...

"Your personality type:

Popular and sensitive, with outstanding people skills. Externally focused, with real concern for how others think and feel. Usually dislike being alone. They see everything from the human angle and dislike impersonal analysis. Very effective at managing people issues and leading group discussions. Interested in serving others and probably place the needs of others over their own needs.

Careers that could fit you includes:

Teachers, consultants, psychiatrists, social workers, counselors, clergy, sales representatives, human resources, managers, events coordinators, politicians, diplomats, writers, actors, designers, homemakers, musicians, religious workers."

This Week The Plan

Ohbekaybe, last week was both the best of times and the worst of times. I nearly died of the stomach flu... and finally got down to the bottom of my maintenance range. Unfortunately I was so wiped out that I couldn't workout all week. Then my mom came to town and we went out to eat a LOT. So... I think you know where I'm going with this... in the end I weigh exactly what I weighed at the start of last week. Hmm. New freaking week... same freaking story. The only difference is that now I've had a taste of the glory (aka looking completely badass in my jeans again) and I want it back with a fierceness. Maybe this week I can finally commit to taking this thing 100%.

Onto the plan:

Menu:

Monday - Cornflake Crusted Tilapia w/ Asparagus

Tuesday - Brown Sugar & Ginger Salmon, Veggie Stirfry, Rice

Wednesday - Pork Tenderloin, Green Beans, Smashed Potatoes

Thursday - Saturday in Charleston

Sunday - Tomato & Meatball Soup

Diet & Exercise:
I think you can see that this week I might have some obstacles.... but I really intend to keep it in line this week. This has been my stumbling block this whole past month and a half. So I've got some new rules: #1 NO FREAKING SODA. Okay I guess that is one rule not some rules. I don't have a lot of time to workout this week but I am going to just max it out the best I can... I'll do 60 minutes Monday - Wednesday and again on Sunday night. After watching the Oprah with Gwyneth I've really had to think about how little time I'm exercising and how badly I want to lower my body fat back down. Getting sick was a reminder that 2 or 3 pounds on me is actually a significant difference... nearly an entire dress size... and that I'm much happier and more confident a few pounds lighter. So I need to step it up.

Oh God It's Voting Season Again...

Remember last year when I made you all vote for me (again and again) for the Weblog Awards? Okay well this might seem like a flashback for you then... BUT... someone was gracious enough to nominate me for this:

And...well... I have fragile self esteem.

Asheville Adventures

Today we hit the Western North Carolina Farmer's Market...

And their bakery (of course):

Here's my mom (please note purple hair):

Then after a crazy "country style" lunch at the cafe we headed for a short jaunt on the Blue Ridge Parkway:

Which wouldn't have been complete without taking pictures of ourselves...
I'm obviously too freaking cool for school:

This is the picture I took of my mom right after I told she was about to step backwards off the cliff:
It was funny... but I fear you "had to be there".

This is what Baby did while we amused ourselves at mountain top:

Good Times.

Things You've Missed

Baby had her first habanero last night... accidentally of course... God I wish I'd had my camera for that one!
Her face slowly turned red inch by inch and her eye's glassed over. But she didn't freak out like I might have expected. No crying or gagging.... she just stuck her tongue out. She was apparently shocked. Then she drank some water and resumed eating. It was really something to behold.

Yo Momma

My mother is in town. We're off to go split one of those fantastic fresh baked cinnamon rolls.

While I'm out did anyone happen to see Gwyneth on Oprah yesterday?
Dude, she works out for 2 hours a freaking day, 6 days a week.
Discuss...

Believe you me I have some stuff to say about this (and it might not be what you think). Stay tuned.

Calling All Cardio Buffs

I got an email from a friend in dire need of an elliptical trainer. I don't have one myself but I've got a feeling more than a few of you do.
So...
Who here has an at home elliptical?
Would you all let me know what kind and how you've like it. Prices too would be great.

Oh and just in case you can't go a day without a video update... this one's for YOU!

While We Wait For The Mormons....

I urge you to go check out my good friend Mary Poppins.
I think you'll find her an enjoyable read since she is smart and witty... plus since she knows me in real life you never know what kind of inside scoop you might glean from her... and that might be worth it in and of itself (might).

Ever wonder who I went on those "Craft Dates" with? Mary Poppins.
How about who taught Baby's "Baby Class"? Mary Poppins.
What about Kid's dance class? You guessed it.
She's a jack of all trades that one.
She's also the first mom to ask me out. Not me and my kids.... just me. It's hardly ever done I assure you. It took a sassy confidence you don't see much of around the playground these days.

Now be OFF!
