Okay - just watched Oprah on DVR and this is where I have to admit to watching Celebrity Rehab too.
Seth Binzer said that one of the telltale signs that he's about to fall off the wagon and use again is when he thinks that he has it all figured out, that his problems are fixed. - Interesting that this is kind of what Oprah and Bob Green(e?)expressed as well. And I know when my husband gets really cocky about his weight and exercise, it always falls apart in dramatic fashion.
I voted for you! And I put you on my Facebook status so that other people might vote for you! I talk about your blog all the time at work, so hopefully they'll read you and vote!
Glad your mom is there. Remember, she is there to help so let her help! I mean, you can't have Kid do ALL the laundry!
I just voted too and will try to remember to do it from multiple computers-GOOD LUCK or break a leg (or better yet hold that thought-a broken ass is enough!;)
So glad your Mom arrived for back up support-LET HER HELP! And glad to hear she survived getting thru Charlotte-lately, I've heard countless stories of nightmares getting through that airport!
so... you say on the 26th that you're going for a skate and breaking a hip but you break your tailbone instead.... hip/tailbone tailbone/hip... you got a crystal ball or something..... and I just started taking my granddaughter to teach her how... oh, hi by the way, good luck
I look forward to you and your mom's take on Oprah. I enjoyed watching it with a big BUT. As someone who lives with hypothyroidism, Oprah is being irresponsible in saying that her thyroid disease was "cured." She can feel/believe whatever she wants, but with millions of viewers who believe her every word, she should get her facts straight. You can not "cure" thyroid disease. You live with it for the rest of your life. I feel badly for all of those people out there who have it and think that maybe if they just loved themselves a little more then they would feel better physically and lose extra weight.
Gaining weight when you have thyroid disease is the least of the problems that can occur if it remains untreated. It can do major damage to your heart and a whole lot of other unpleasant things. Much more unpleasant in my book than my jeans being too tight.
Oprah should fully explain herself with that comment. Even her information about thyroid disease on her website has some incorrect information. "Embrace hunger"....that is just a stupid doctor and so not accurate. She should not have even repeated it.
I guess this bothers me more than I thought. I just feel she was irresponsible in saying she was "cured" without further elaborating. Maybe she never had thyroid disease. I know that my thyroid disease will never go away and it is not a big deal to take a little pill once a day to help produce the hormone I am low on. I totally agree though that you can not exclusively blame thyroid disease for weight gain. People's bodies change as they get older and you really need to take in less calories and move more or the weight will creep on you.
Voted. Am going to try and get Ken to vote...I don't know how to turn his computer on...but I am going to vote from my iPhone too (cue heavenly music) I love that thing wayyy too much!!
I did not watch Oprah because despite everything; she does not usually make me feel good about myself...weird, huh? I know everyone loves her, I'll be an outcast now for sure.
I hope you beat Dooce, but I'll have to send you an e mail why...
1. Fake celebrities. The "John & Kate + 8" haters/lovers are pretty rabid. How about another post on the show? Keep your views ambiguous and reel 'em in. Really, they'll be hooked.
2. Religion. Explore your fascination w/ fringe religions by posting about scientology, Jett Travolta and autism. Crass exploitation you say? Yes, but the lovers/haters there seem to be equally rabid.
3. Sex. Choose your topic, any topic. I suggest George Clooney.
4. Drugs. Extra pain killers? There are lots of lovers for those too. Potential voters and extra cash. One stone . . . two birds.
5. Ellipses. Too much or never enough?
Good luck!
ps, Ignore the whole Jett Travolta topic if it hits too close to home. I will probably go to a dark, scary place that rhymes w/ *bell* for even suggesting it.

Can't wait to hear what you thought of Oprah today. I dug it but kind of wanted to hear more about the big plan.
I also had to change the channel when Carnie Wilson was droning on about loving herself. Whatever.
Just voted. Will warm up my finger for tomorrow's voting.
Hang tough, Mrs. F.

Slick Willie,
Watch yourself on the ice! ;)
Julie,
I was baffled by the whole "cured" comment too. I also wondered if that meant she had never had it.
I'll have to do a post on this!

Stacy,
LOL you've done your homework!
I didn't even know about Jett!
Oh I've had some J&K stuff brewing and I just got the book from the library... I might be able to work on that.
